Ideally, you want a dirty work guy on each line, the guy who goes into the corner, retrieves the puck and gets it to a playmaker, goes to the front of the net and sets screens and puts in rebounds. Without this kind of guy, the cycle gets curtailed and everyone is shooting from outside and the goalie has clear vision.

Players that excel in the cycle game and can drive the play have plenty of value, but skill trumps all. I'm not advocating trading for JG, but the idea of him playing below Lindblom because dirty work is bizarre.

Balance. Good lines have guys with complementary skills.
So when you value an acquisition, you have to take fit into account, not just skill.
We have 10 players who'd play in the top 9 on almost any team (at least when Patrick is 100%), but we've struggled to find the right chemistry.
Though one advantage for JG is that he should have good chemistry with Hayes.

Don't underestimate Lindblom, when healthy he's going to be a 40+ ES scorer with good defense. Right now he's still struggling with stamina, for some odd reason.

Elliotte Friedman saying on 31 thoughts (they finally got around to talking extensively about the Flyers and Jeff Marek speaking praises of Dave Hakstol lmao) that the Flyers know they can trade Ghost anytime they want if they retain salary (or add sweetener at full AAV). And, in so many words, that the coaching staff is cognizant of the work he’s put in since last season. In all, it suggests that waiving and benching him isn’t reflective of what they think of him, but didn’t discount that Ghost can be blunt. Didn’t say anything about playing games with the roster.

Actually I could see the Flyers and Flames doing something. It would have to be creative both in players and salary; no on Farabee but possibly on Konecny. Depends on the return. A hang up might be whether or not Sutter would accept some of the defensively flawed players that the Flyers have. However there are some fits that could satisfy needs on both teams.

"You know who was great for him - like, really great for him, early in his career when he started? Dave Hakstol."

Given their shoddy goaltending, they're 9th in goals allowed, so Hakstol may just be doing a good job there.
Look for him to get another HC job in the near future.

Hak works in Toronto now, so it doesn't surprise me that the Toronto based media speaks kindly about him at the moment.
Ding ding ding! Although to be fair, they were generally kind to him when he was with the Flyers (not that they brought him up very much at all) -- once you get the rep of traditional, old school hockey guy, you're set for life with these people. It's acceptable to lose ten in a row as long as you do it with honor, or according to whatever code these freaks cherish.
