Maybe someone who knows the stats better then i do can explain what these all mean for both goalies so far at 5 on 5.

Jones sv% .899, gaa 3.26, gsaa .049 xgagainst 11.85, hd shots against 32, hd saves 26, hd goals against, hdsv% .813, hdgaa 1.51, hdgsaa 2.28, rush attempts against 6, rebound attempts against 21, avg shot distance 34.85, average goal distance 20.69

Dubnyk sv% .891, gaa 3.30, gsaa -0.49, xgagainst 7.64, hd shots against 26, hd saves 17, hd goals against 9, hdsv% .654, hdgaa 2.47, hdgsaa -2.28, rush attempts against 4, rebound attempts against 11, avg shot distance 35.02, avg goal distance 17.42.

To me when i look at those stats, it looks like jones has been the better goalie at 5 on 5, but some of them i could be reading wrong as being worse or better.

Where jones falls off for stats is on the pk, dubnyk has been close to perfect.

Adding total 5 on 5 ice time.

Jones 238:58, dubnyk 218:24

That's sure how it looks to me, but TOI would be a useful thing to add for context with those counting stats.

Maybe TOI for defensemen in front of them too, but that's even more work.

I will add the toi, it is about 20 mins more for jones as jones has started 6 games while dubnyk has only started 4. But dubnyk has come in for relief in 2 games.

5v5 TOI for defensemen by goaltender:

Jones (238:58) - Burns 100:40, Karlsson 95:45, Vlasic 92:07, Ferraro 91:34, Knyzhov 48:33, Simek 38:58, Middleton 6:10, Meloche 5:18
Dubnyk (218:24) - Burns 89:07, Karlsson 79:03, Ferraro 76:58, Vlasic 73:42, Simek 61:10, Knyzhov 53:54, Middleton 2:24

Percentages:

Jones - Burns 42.1%, Karlsson 40.1%, Vlasic 38.6%, Ferraro 38.3%, Knyzhov 20.3%, Simek 16.3%, Middleton 2.6%, Meloche 2.2%
Dubnyk - Burns 40.8%, Karlsson 36.2%, Ferraro 35.2%, Vlasic 33.8%, Simek 28.0%, Knyzhov 24.7%, Middleton 1.1%

I think Jones might have worse defense in front of him, too. More Karlsson, more Vlasic, more Middleton/Meloche, less Simek, less Knyzhov.

You could have stopped at Karlsson and Vlasic and been right haha.

I am not trying to argue for either, just a running theory i have early on this season with the team and the goalies play.

Early on it seems the team is having trouble to find a balance between the play the team gives jones (offensive) and the team they give dubnyk (defensive).

Jones comes in and they score lots of goals but also give up lots of high danger chances, next game dubnyk plays and they play better defensively but can't score to save there lives. Then jones comes back and they try to loosen up defensively to score more goals and it is like a merry go round right now.

I'm just wondering how bad of a goalie do you have to be to be worse than Martin Jones.

Honestly, I'm pretty bad at hockey, so when none of the goalies showed up to a practice once, they made me suit up. It's genuinely impossible to stop a puck so I could see why it goes by him frequently.

Balcers really gonna show his offensive chops stuck with broken Patrick Marleau at center when he hasn't been a regular center in... geez, has it been like 10+ years?

Honestly...
