I found this to be quite sobering. Sharks are 28th in the league standings, but have scored about the same number of goals as the Caps.

Their road record (12-14-4) is also almost the same as ours (14-12-3).

So we beat one of the best teams in the league one day...get spanked by one of the worst the next. I didn't get to watch the Sharts game due to the blackout, but from reading here, sounds like the Caps were not 100% motivated? If so, that's a coaching issue.

They probably struggled with recovery after the Boston game. And yeah, one could argue that it's just because they're old, but really, less than 24 hours between games plus travel is pretty f***ing brutal for any team IMHO. And even still they came out strong until the Eller turnover. They never got their groove back after that and weakened as the game went on.
