They remind me of the atlanta braves in the Cox era, except they did manage to win at least one championship that I know of.

The Sharks have one of the best General Managers ever. He has constantly led the team to good drafting and continued play at above average levels for several years. Not a Sharks fan, but mad respect is due to Wilson.

Seems to always be able to rob teams silly of their star players, but for whatever reason, it doesn't all come together in the playoffs. Maybe this is the year that changes.

With their win tonight, the Sharks now have won 1.000 regular season games. It took them 2.112 games. Only two teams got their faster, I think it was the Flyers and Habs. Can someone clarify?

Many teams didn't have the same opportunity for all games ending in a win. Still, the have been very consistent team over the years. Congrats Sharks!

To answer your question, # of games to get to 1000 wins...
Flyers - 2018 games
Canadiens - 2064 games
Sharks - 2112 games

Yes, Sharks became the 3rd fastest franchise to get to 1,000 wins. Philadelphia Flyers (2,018 GP) and Montreal Canadiens (2,066 GP) are the franchises who got there faster.

If you count only totals from their current location, then New Jersey Devils (2,100 GP) and Dallas Stars (1,940 GP) also got to the milestone faster. In fact Dallas Stars became the fastest team to get to 1,000 wins just few weeks ago, on December 27th, when looking only at their totals from Dallas. But this isn't how NHL keeps their records, they count franchise totals so the GP/W totals from previous locations are relevant as well.

In a no tie league I imagine we are bound to see record like those go down.

Slightly inflated in the shootout era, although there's no question that they have been one of the consistently elite teams for many years

Pretty damn impressive. They've been a model franchise. Kind of a shame they haven't been rewarded with a Cup.

Crazy that they have only missed the playoffs twice in the last 20 years.

Vegas is going to shatter this record tho.

It's a far cry from their inaugural season: 17–58–5 with goals for: 219, goals against: 359 (almost double!).

Also, they got Josed for the cup.

It's a shame that Ottawa has stumbled like they have the past couple seasons or it would have made a good race to watch as the Senators close in on 1000 (they're at 909).

The win stat is a bit misleading nowadays with the lack of ties.

In any event, they've been competitive ever since the expansion period expired.
