If you look at my post history, you’ll see I’ve always questioned his possibility as a top 6 C. I loved his game tonight.

I don’t think it’s exactly a negative. I think he could be a top 6 C, I just don’t know if he sees the ice well enough to get by as one. Stone is a bit of an odd comparison in that sense, considering Stone sees the ice extremely well.

Nothing wrong with tempering expectations imo. As a fan, a lot less disappointment when they don't hit lowered expectations and a lot more excitement when they exceed them.

I'd be less bitter if Logan Brown was pegged as a possible 2C with very low likelihood to make the NHL, rather than our next Spezza

Two solid two way centers in Norris and Pinto. And in a similar fashion, could even say three with White (who's ceiling seems to be more of a shutdown PK specialist center that can chip in 40 pts).
If only Brown could have actually become even half of what we thought he might be.

Set expectations low and if he surpasses them you’re thrilled, if he reaches them, you’re thrilled, if he doesn’t meet them, who cares? he was only a projected 3rd line C anyway.

I think he has a high ceiling. Doesn’t mean he’ll reach it, but he has a Bergeron-lite feel to him. Ice water in his veins, great faceoff guy with underrated offence.

Worst case scenario he will be a better version of Pageau imo

While one game in the NHL is a small sample size, Pinto's last yr has not been. He first came out in the 2020 WJC & in his first tournament was one of the US's best forward in that tournament & he followed that up with a great freshman season at UND. Last season Pinto ended up as one of UND's leading scorers & won several awards as the best forward in the Conference & was runner up for the Hobey Baker award as the best player in college hockey. This guy is no slouch, he has NHL size & speed, he clearly has the skillset & he's excellent at faceoffs & is responsible defensively, IMO he is the total package for a top six centre.

And along with Norris who is no slouch himself & also very good at faceoffs & a 200' ft player Ottawa has the potential of a dynamic two way punch with both these guys down the middle & may have solved their centre problem. They also have a number of very good wingers to compliment these guys with size, skill & grit to play any style. IMO this team is going to be a formidable team to play against next season especially when they play with confidence & get solid goaltending which is essential to winning in the NHL.

Both JBD and Pinto had amazing debuts. Can't imagine anyone could have hoped for more.

Each showed the elements that made them successful in college and translated well in to their NHL games.

Very happy that the suggestions about skating being a weakness in Pinto were unfounded. I didn't think it was but having seen him he is a strong skater and with his anticipation he will have no issues.

Also have to give props to DJ for how he handled both kids. Gave them decent minutes and responsibility - same with Formenton having him on PK. Good stuff all around.

All that said, I'm not convinced at this point that Logan Brown will be the top-line center as your line-up suggests.

Instead, I think the Sens should assemble a package of four or more players from those who didn't make your cut to acquire a veteran #1 centre who can mentor Norris, Pinto and Stutzle.

Hopefully turns out similar to how the NYR turned out in the Lundqvist era with two way forwards pumped out all at once in Dubinski, Stepan, Kreider, Callahan.

That team was fun to watch. They obviously were able to fill in top end talent with Nash, Gaborik, Naslund, etc. with all their cash but still. That young core is what I hope we develop.

Well, I was quoting somebody so I was not "suggesting" Brown, purely hypothetical. At this point, I don't thinkBrown will even be with the Sens for much longer. I think he'll be able to carve some type of NHL career though, IF he finally stays healthy.

White is not in that lineup because of his 4.75 CH At some point, you can't afford average players to be expensive. I think he can be a good 3rd liner slightly overpaid but I'd rather allocate the money to Pinto or Connor Brown, depending the position we're talking about

Tierney should have been traded 2 years ago when he had value. Dzingel is nice but while not "old", he's 29 y/o already. I would re-sign short term as a stop gap though. Watson has 2 more years left, another stop gap, wouldn't re-sign him after that

The rest are not top prospects, some will make it and play in the NHL. Daoust and Jarventie have the best chance to be significant players IMO.

If we could acquire a center that could be good for the next 5 years, even if "older" than Stutzle, yes we should do it (I suggest Seguin in the proposals thread, because (if Dallas chooses this path) the price to acquire him would be much more reasonnable than Eichel, for example)

I don't think 4 players who don't make the cut (do not play in the NHL for the Senators) is going to get us a veteran #1 centre. I do not want to acquire any more old vet centres to mentor or insulate our young players. I want a young team, full of energy, fast skating, ambitious and fun to watch.

Yea, same. If we plays this way to the end of the season, I dont see him having any AHL time. Sometimes we see spurts of great play from NCAA players when they come over from a freshly signed ELC. The next year becomes more challenging facing a longer grueling schedule. Would be awesome to see him beast it out with Sokolov for a bit. But with our weak C depth, he might just bypass it.

When was that?

From what he has shown already Pinto is going to be a great player. He isn't just showing a few flashes here and there, he is a showing a structured game and an incredible IQ.

He isn't shying away physically and he has made room to get his shot off a few times already as well.

Still can't believe there was a thought his skating was a weakness (or even, "his weakest skill") - he is quick, agile and strong on his skates.

Feels good after all these years of prospects to watch a few come in and look legit pretty much right away with others that seem close to showing the same.
