I was just going to mention this! How many cups world the Bruins have had the potential to win if they had gotten lucky enough to draft those 3 ? o_O
I think they would have lost somebody really important if they drafted those 3. Barzal probably has more point and gets a better deal. Obviously you still want to draft the 3 better players but it would have been a struggle for Bruins to keep their core.

It's one thing to say, "we get it, give it a rest." It's another to try grouping all these disappointments in the same bucket.
Strome has 129 points in 224 NHL games.
Hanifin is a very solid top 4 defenseman.
Zacha is a versatile bottom 6 forward.
Gurianov has established himself as a decent depth scorer.
Crouse has at least stuck in the NHL.

All of those were good picks at the time, and it just hasn't panned out as they've hoped.

The Bruins went off the board to take DeBrusk, who is now requesting a trade. They went way off the board to select Senyshyn, who is an AHLer and now requesting a trade. Even the one guy who was considered a decent pick at the time (Zboril) has been a disaster and only played 54 NHL games despite being nearly 25-years-old.

Debrusk has/had 30 goal potential and was a first round talent.
Zboril has been very good and was drafted exactly where expected.

Senyshyn was a terrible pick.

Someone did mention that he has cleared waivers already.
Claiming him on waivers means you have to keep him on the Maple Leafs.
Trading for him means you could leave him in the AHL and see if you can develop him.
I wouldn’t give up anything of much value but if we have a prospect we are ready to give up on it could be a change of scenery for both players.

"Had" and "potential" are the operative words for DeBrusk.

He has 11 goals and 12 assists in his last 72 regular season games and 3 goals + 1 assist in his last 16 playoff games.

Yeah, for sure. He has cleared waivers and is in Providence.

Yes we get it. Bruin's 2015 draft wasn't great. But every year there are duds that are drafted high and studs drafted low.
Look at

06 - Marchand 3rd round pick
04 - Rinne 8th round pick
07 - Jamie Benn - 5th round pick
10 - Klingberg - 5th round pick, Mark stone - 6th round pick

Every team passed on them too.

so what can they get for Debrusk and Senyshyn?

Or should we ask if their is a problem in Boston?
The problem is our gm and scouts are terrible at drafting and really he should have been fired immediately after that awful draft. We hoped it was a rookie error but his drafting remains awful as does everything else he does. The Bruins are very soon going to be a basement team for many years when the top line runs its course. They've carried us forever and gave the false impression of a good team. Sweeney has done nothing but make this team progressively worse since the day he arrived.

Sometimes teams reach, sometimes talented players fall, sometimes players vastly outperform their draft slot. Sometimes high picks bust.

The issue is when you have three consecutive picks and there's a universal consensus that there are two absolute blue chip forwards still on the board, and you pass on both of them to pick a guy projected to go late-first and another guy late-second/early-third.

After Zboril, who did go in his projected draft slot, if they reached for one forward and then took one of the consensus picks with the other, no one would care. It's that he was dealt an 19 in blackjack and decided to hit. If he took Debrusk and Connor or Barzal and Senyshyn, there wouldn't be nearly as much fuss.

Hall at $6.0 million is terrible value for his 15 goal 45 point pace. I am sure glad the Oilers signed Hyman over Hall.

Hall plays with a puck possession 3rd line center and a 3rd line RWer. Not a good comparison. Sweeney is desperately praying Krejci returns somehow. His job should be on the line, and soon.

Bruins take a lot of shit for their picks in 2015 but there are several teams that would like a re-do, don't tell me Strome Hanifin Zacha Crouse or Gurianov are fully living up to their pedigree either
Difference is that most of those guys went where they were expected, they just didn’t pan out. That’s normal and happens every draft. Everyone knew Boston’s picks sucked on draft day

Hall just re-signed there with a massive discount, McAvoy just signed a mega deal to stay, and Carlo also signed an extension until the rapture, so no, I doubt there's a problem in Boston.

Yeah every team has players who want a bigger role and if they don't get it they ask out.

It's a business at the end of the day and they are all looking to maximize their earnings.

ZBORIL . . . SENYSHYN . . . DEBRUSK!! sounds like a witch's incantation for making your Stanley Cup hopes disappear.
As horrible as those 3 picks were in retrospect, Boston hit absolute home runs in 2014 and 2016, dramatically exceeding expected return for the picks they used on McAvoy and Pastrnak as they missed the expected value on these picks.
