Looked like a bunch of guys who have a slim chance at the NHL. For a bunch of guys that have no chance. We got the guys with no chance.

Lots of glue coming back to us though.

meh. When I say NHLers...I mean everyday NHLers. Guys who legitimately get 300+ career games. No cup of coffee guys who might get a few callups here and there.

I probably should of said it that way in the first post.

Between the guys we acquired today and the ones we got from Toronto, do any of them have a chance to be in the organization next year?

Well,Leduc is a younger 3rd round pick. Big pts in the q as a dman, but that doesn't mean much.

Dzingel way the 7th we got from Alexi Kovalev, McCormick was a 6th from Ruutu, Stone was a 6th from Auld.

All of these picks are significant investments in our future. As a team with a poor core of prospects coming up- anytime we can refill the cupboards the better. I really hope Schnider cracks the Sabres for 3 games.

No need. It was obvious to most!

Congrats to especially Cole Schneider. He has been overlooked by Ottawa IMHO. He should have gotten nhl games last year. He will definitely get games with sabres

He's pretty much been absolutely awful for Rochester.

He had a solid stretch at the end of last year that earned him his contract this year....but for the most part, he's a career 3rd pairing AHL guy.

I mean there is the hope that one day it will just 'click' for him and he'll become a competent 3rd pairing NHL PPQB specialist type. I guess him having a brief stint in that sort of role ala Nathan Paetsch. But yeah, he's been pretty bad most of his AHL career.

In Varone I suppose Ottawa gets a guy that can competently play in the NHL if needed on an injury recall. That's not to say he's any good in such a capacity (or a standout in anyway in the AHL). But he can be competent. Are the sons shallow on callup guys? I guess that could be the target with him

The Sens put some money into O'Dell and Schneider and it didn't work out. It's not all on them but they were supposed to be difference makers.

Maybe the new guys can help get Bingo some wins.

Also opens up an extra roster spot in case of college signings etc.

Housekeeping, I guess. Worth a shot though.

O'Dell and Akeson were teammates, if not linemates, back in Cumberland. At this point they are roughly a wash, as are Schneider and Varone.

I would imagine there is one guy in the group - Schneider or Sdao - that Timmy first asked about. One or both could get an audition late in the year I would imagine.

would love to see schneider get a shot with buffalo. would not love to see him be a successful 3rd line guy that looks better than chiasson or neil, but i'd still be happy for him.

Guptill is the one guy here who I think we'll regret trading the most.

That ECHL team that we aren't even affiliated with that we loaned him to because we didn't even want to play him on our own ECHL team will never be the same.

So is bingo likely worse now? Is our Ahl team tanking?

They can't be much worse, and trading two AAAA forwards and a third pairing defenceman for two other AAAA forwards and a different third pairing defenceman shouldn't make you worse.

I also don't think minor league teams can tank. That makes no sense.

Why is it always assumed we do everything to stay within this budget lol. This was just a simply trade.

With Turris being injured and the lack of consistency from our centres, I'm completely flabbergasted O'dell was never even given a chance in the bigs. Looked good/feisty in pre-season, relatively young, led Bingo in scoring, hell he's even local

Hey guys....just as a little FYI:

Varone's gotten a few games with the Sabres the past couple of seasons. Some games he didn't look out of place at all and actually looked like he could be a top 6 guy.
There might be something there. Maybe. Possibly.

That's what they said about that Eric O'Dell dude when he was signed. I wonder what he's doing these days...
