Unfortunately no. I pay my electricity, which is why I'm upgrading my baseboard heaters. Water the condo association pays for. Which means I'm not directly on the hook for the water bill from my flood at least

OK then.

So yeah, if it's not much of an upgrade, get an underpad with a good R rating. Concrete absolutely retains that cold FOREVER. Assuming it's not exorbitantly more expensive to put in a nice insulated underpad, you'll make your money back and more... ESPECIALLY with baseboard heaters. ****ing baseboard heaters are like the most expensive heating option avail.

Formal request to make me a better human (My old boss realized I'm not an ******* just an idiot and had to individually explain everything I did that was inappropriate).

Let me know if something I say is embarrassing and why, lol. I feel like I'm much better than 8 years ago when I joined, but in some ways I feel worse.

(Plus this is the one place where I can vent my stupidness).

I looked at putting in a ceramic heated floor, figured having a 200sqft area with radiant heating would nicely do my unit... but it was like 2k for the system, and at least 1.5k for the tiles  I will say though, those ceramic tiles with wood grain are absolutely gorgeous to look at.

Also considered adding a kickspace heater in the kitchen (figured heating the tiles would be somewhat efficient), but with the design I'm going with... not really any good spot to place it anymore. Plus I've really allowed myself to have way too much in terms of upgrade cost creep.

Yeah, that's definitely a trap that's easy to fall into...

Some upgrades pay for themselves, and some you'll never recover value from. Energy saving upgrades can often pay for themselves, so you just have to look at the extra cost within the context of paying up front for future savings.

Yeah...
Like I think basically the breakdown so far is roughly...
Kitchen:
4k in appliances (new dishwasher, new slide in stove, new island range hood)
1k in electrician work
1k in design

Bathrooms:
Might creep up to 1k when you figure in matching all the hardware.

Flooring:
500 in upgrades

Random other trades work:
~2k which includes updating the baseboard heaters and getting a centralized thermostat for them (so maybe they'll actually shut off!!!), switching panel from fuses to breakers, and getting a few receptacles/circuits to code.

Though in the future I'll still have some work to do, including probably a new fridge and re-staining my bannister to match the kitchens. And probably some bathroom work on the tub/shower.

I figure I'll get my money back in the kitchen, and the trades work will make things easier to sell/improve quality of life while I'm here. The bathrooms I might probably be spending more than I'll get back but at least I'll like the look when I'm done.

Kitchen & Bathrooms make money when selling a house/ condo... you just have to make sure not to OVER-renovate. Like... condos have a ceiling in value, you can;t put in a $20k kitchen and get that value back, because no one is going to pay $20k more for a unit in a lot of cases.

How much of those upgrades you mentioned are covered by insurance? How much are you out of your own pocket?

These are the out of pocket portions currently. Though I've got some stuff with insurance that I'll probably cash out on to soften that (like my kitchen table needs to be refinished, there's actually some electrical work that's just going straight to me since I'm dealing with the electrician directly, and I'll probably not bother having them touch up the water stained portions of the balustrade since I'm planning to eventually change the colour anyway). So I think if my math is right I've got about 3-4k to shift over onto these.

And yeah, I know I've got a cap on my condo... which is why didn't even consider doing things like granite countertop or hardwood floors upstairs or ripping up the existing tile. But I think what I am doing will basically get me to about that cap. We had a power of sale unit go for about 145k, and I think there's been a couple above 155k in the last couple years. Currently one listed unit that's been updated similar to how I'm doing mine for 160k. And another that's 165k.

There's a small chance I'll be moving back to Ottawa in the next year... If so, I need to get me all up on one of those power of attorney sales for a house.

I kind of want to get an ex-grow-op house ridiculously cheap and strip the whole thing down to studs.

After a quick google I've determined you need to seek medical attention as soon as you can. Good luck, Omni! I hope TIA isn't what's going on with you, and I hope whatever is happening is treated immediately.

Well, I've been dealing with what I thought was headrushes. As a kid, that's the only way I knew how to explain it. But, they've been going on daily for 6-7 years.

Series of them everyday and night. I've learned to mask it when they happen because I don't wanna trouble anyone. Left side numbness, shoots all the way down my left side. Sometimes lost of balance, tingling and I feel like my face gets droopy. Other embarrassing things I do not wish to share.

They first started at once a day or two to once a day. Then 3 times a day. Then they happened every 6 hours lasting 2-3 hours a piece. Then progressed to 4-3-2 hours. Now I'm at the point where they happen every 30-60 minutes, last an hour, rinse and repeat.

It's caused me into deep depression, lack of confidence in my abilities and on and on questioning about what will happen next.

Not sure if I ever shared so much on here. Some of you may know some of this.

Thanks guys, means a lot knowing I get support from those I don't even know. I don't know what to do honestly. This has been going on for years like I said, MRI's, specialist and specialist, Neurologist, 20-30 doctor visits, no results. I don't wanna say I gave up on this, but I won't lie, I kinda feel like no hope :(

Dang, do you have the face drooping and the speech problems?

I don't notice the speech problem, but maybe I do stutter more? Not exactly sure. The first time's I had these, felt like head rushes because everything around me was acting weird, noises were different and I would fall over. Over time, I've learned to live with it and act like nothing's even happening. Lets just say it's torturing me deathly inside and making me an incredibly mad person.

Well you've got the name of a condition you think you may have

That can be what starts the path to recovery and recover you will

I hope so. I won't live my life like this forever.

That's pretty much why I don't do GDT's anymore. I haven't had the motivation or mental state to put time in any of them. For that, I apologize.

I feel really sad for you man, that stuff is f-ing tough to deal with, and makes my own physical issues seem so unimportant. I hope you find that one doctor or specialist that can finally make the right diagnosis and get you feeling better.

I guess the bright side is you don't have memory issues, which is something others who suffer from similar conditions often get.

Stay strong.

Thank you

I guess I'll say this and beat HAWT to it here. "Omni never had great memory to begin with" :sarcasm:

Again, all this is just me thinking is what I'm suffering from. Nothing known yet. Could the enormous chest pains be that too? So many questions, no answers and time wasted haha

Over the years on here it may be why I got angry so easily and little pokes to me. Everyone who knows me knows I'm a joker and take nothing serious. But overtime, things get rough and my fuse is shorter. Manked, this is for you :P
