Pick 77 - 2B Willie Randolph

RandolphWillie.jpg

A smooth-fielding 2B who could have easily won multiple gold gloves if the AL field wasn't so crowded in the late 70's/early 80's, Randolph also did enough at the plate to contribute to seven division winners and four pennant winners, winning back-to-back World Series in 1977-78.

271 SB (20 per 162)
6x All-Star

Pick 80 - Turn of the 20th century HOF C Roger Bresnahan

220px-Roger_Bresnahan%2C_St._Louis%2C_NL_%28baseball%29_%28LOC%29.jpg

Athletic enough to have started his career as a pitcher, and played in the outfield at various points in his career but eventually found a home at catcher, where he became a HOF'er on the legendary John McGraw Giants of the '00's, backstopping a rotation led by Christy Mathewson and other great pitchers. Can bat at the top or bottom of the order. He also was credited with some of the catching equipment we take for granted today:

In 1907, became the first catcher to wear shin guards – another in a long line of protective gear innovations, including a rudimentary batting helmet, that Bresnahan brought to the game.

“Boy, they sure called me lots of names when I tried on those shin guards,” Bresnahan said. “They must have been a good idea at that, though, because they tell me catchers still wear them.”

.279 BA/.386 OBP
126 OPS+
212 steals (24 per 162 games)
.971 fielding percentage (above league average for that period)
44% of baserunners CS

Posting from the negro league museum, so it is only appropriate i select one of their greats. C Quincy Trouppe

Lifetime Negro League Average of .311.

Lifetime Mexican League Average of .304

Trouppe was a switch hitting catcher who was noted for his power and game calling. He is overshadowed by the great Josh Gibson, but is a legend in his own right, and is definitely capable of splitting starts with Napoli.

Pick 89 - SP Eddie 'The Junkman' Lopat

e3a049be_davis.jpg

Was a key pitcher on the Yankee team that won five straight World Series from 1949-1953.

http://sabr.org/bioproj/person/e3a049be

Lopat was known by a number of names -"the Junkman," the "cute little lefthander." To Ted Williams, he was "that bleeping Lopat." Yankee broadcaster Mel Allen called him "Steady Eddie."

There were differing views of his pitching motion. Some said he looked like a robot or a wind-up doll in need of some WD-40. Others described his delivery as smooth, easy, stylish. Most used the same word to characterize it: deceptive. Williams, when asked to name the five toughest pitchers he had faced, placed Eddie Lopat at the head of the list.

166-112 W/L record (.597)
3.21 ERA (led the league in 1953)
116 ERA+
1.27 WHIP (led the league twice)
4-1 in seven World Series starts with a 2.6 ERA in 52 innings
