with pick 100, the Pittsburgh Pirates are pleased to selctect, C Smokey Burgess.

Burgess played 18 years which is a testament to his ability to play that long as a catcher. He backstopped the 1960 Pirates to the World Series, defeating the Yankees in 7 that season.

A good left handed hitting catcher, Smokey will most likely be part of a platoon.

Pick 105,the Pittsburgh Pirates are happy to select C Manny Sanguillen

The Pirates welcome home one of their own. A great defensive catcher with a good bat. Manny was a two time World Champion with the Pittsburgh Pirates. One of the best arms behind the plate that I have ever seen.

Best defensive years gunning out would-be base stealers, '71 in which he was 15% better than league average, 50% to 35. And '70, when he threw out 43%, when league average was 33%. Two other seasons he was 7% above league norm.

OPS+ 102

WAR 27.5, and an 11.3 dWAR

Pick 112, the Pittsburgh Pirates are pleased to select, 1B John Kruk.

Kruk was able to provide not only pop at the plate from the 1B position, but great on base percentage as well. Good regular season and playoff performances as well.

A key cog on the Oakland A's three-peat WS winners from '72-74. Known for his versatility and speed as well as great defense (his dWAR of 20.8 ranks 45th all-time), Campy's a fine utility man for the bench here.

with pick 124, the Pittsburgh Pirates are happy to select, OF Chick Hafey.

The HOF outfielder has played all three outfield positions, and has a great bat, so he will make a great player to sub in or PH from the Pirates bench.
