Wow, our Wilkes-Barre defense looks bad. Really bad. It's depressing to see most of our defensive depth get pissed away.

I'm not being a smartass, I may have missed something, but where did MJ say Scuderi wouldn't be in the line-up?

I believe people are extrapolating this from the comment about the Pens' defense being a lot more involved in the play this year...

No, it really doesn't look that bad. They have Erixon, Clendening, Oleksy, Warsofsky, O'Neill, Goers and McNeill as players with significant AHL experience and Andersen, who's probably on the level of a good AHLer already. It looks bad in terms of potential NHLers, but their D group overall is downright stacked.

I doubt both Erixon and Clendening make it to WBS. Those are guys that teams will pick up on waivers.

Letang, Maatta, Cole, Lovejoy, Dumoulin...there's your 5.

Scuderi, Gonchar, Erixon, Clendening, and Pouliot as your 6/7/8. I put Pouliot at the end because he can be in WBS.

I think the real battle is between Erixon and Clendening. One will stay, one will be waived and hope for the best.

As an OT, looking at tickets for the Leafs - Pens game. I can get center ice either Row 7 or 15...can't decide which. 7 is closer but I'm worried my view of the ice won't be as clear as at 15. So to those that have been, especially close, which one would you choose.

People keep ignoring that if a team were to claim Clendening or Erixon, they'd have to keep him in the NHL. From all accounts that I've heard, Clendening isn't NHL ready yet, so why would anyone claim him? If someone did claim him, they'd just be stuck with a non-NHL caliber defenseman that needs to be in the AHL to develop further on their NHL roster. I could see Erixon getting claimed (similar to Strait in 2013 IMO), but that one is 50/50. Erixon would serve a purpose as a #7, but I'm not sure many teams need a #7.

I suppose I should have clarified that they do look bad on an "NHL upside" perspective, but they have plenty of experience with career AHLer guys.

I doubt Clendening gets claimed... he's not likely ready for the NHL. Which means whoever claims him does so and keeps him up, or has to expose him to waivers to be sent down - at which point we can claim him and send him down.

I'm ok with the first 4 on that list of D in WBS. It's not such a terrible situation that can't be fixed.

Remember, in 1 draft year, the Pens gained 2 of their current top 4 defenders (Maatta & Pouliot). JR went and drafted forward heavy this year, next year I expect more of a mix with more picks to play with and likely a few moves to add to that list of draft picks as well.

Also, the good is that college FA's that once thought the Pens might be too crowded, could see an opportunity to get in on a contender and make it to the NHL much quicker.

Yeah I don't see a lot of teams wanting to go through that mess. You get him, see he's not ready and why Team A wanted to send him down to let him develop, Team B waives him and Team A gets first crack to get him back and does and sends him down as planned, just with a delay.

It's....what's the point?

I see Erixon & Clendening passing through waivers.

The only thing on my mind is the potential Vegas and Nords team and the stupid expansion draft and that whole dumb protect this many and lose so and so bull ****. I know, too far ahead to worry about.

Yeah but look at how that's setup. In 2001 teams could protect either:
1G, 5D, 9F or 2G, 3D, 7F.

I would see us protecting (if the draft was done now):
1G - MAF (Murray doesn't qualify)
5D - Letang, Maatta, Dumoulin, Cole then take your pick. Pouliot doesn't qualify.
9F - Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Perron, Hornqvist, Bonino, Bennett, then take your pick for the last 2 spots. I could see Rutherford protecting Kunitz and Dupuis. There might be rules around having to protect guys with NMCs.

Now, I don't know about you, but I'm not all that worried about who we'd have to leave unprotected. Lovejoy, Scuderi, Fehr, Cullen (assuming Kunitz and Dupuis were covered), Erixon, etc... some of those guys are quality players who it would suck to lose... but for the most part, they're all replaceable.

Pissed away?

Dumolin, Pouliot and Maata will be on the team and Harrington was traded for Kessel.

Other than Despres who was pissed away?
