Even as a defenceman, he's still probably their 3rd or 4th best forward.

He might not be their 4th best d-man though.

Good for Dunn, he's an exciting player to watch on offense. Not the most fun to watch in his own zone, however, so Seattle fans better hope he inproves in that regard, but even if he doesn't he should be good for 40ish points per year if healthy. Wish him all the best.

I like Dunn, always have, and if Seattle signed him to trade him, I would say they did well. At 4M per, Francis should have many calls from playoff teams looking to bolster their D.

A 4m deal that buys 0 years of RFA. Right to the open market.
Do we think Seattle's ownership group has the stomach to fire Francis after only a year or two? Because he is blowing it.
I have no idea where this comes from. He was taking them to arbitration where he’d get a one or two year reward. He could’ve just had that, he had zero inspiration to give up years of ufa. Francis didn’t have leverage with that, and he probably doesn’t want to pay this guy long term as he’s struggled to even stay in the lineup.

This deal makes perfect sense for both sides.

If it was 3.5 I think people would say it's a good deal for Dunn. But I don't mind him at 4.

In a world where Cody Ceci is getting 3.25 for 4 years, I'm fine with the 4 number for Dunn. That being said, walking him straight to UFA is an odd, odd, odd move.

He was on pace for 38 points last season. He's 24 so should only get better and with a bigger role he can get 10g 35a 45p and the deal is fine.
He turns 25 at the start of the season and has eclipsed 30 points once. The idea that he all the sudden reaches 45 is still a big ask.

4M per year is a bit much for a guy that has had to be sheltered his entire career. I too am glad the Blues dodged that.

That's about the going rate for Damon Severson at the same age. He hit 30 twice but potato tomato. It's in the ballpark.

I wanted him on the Habs as a 6th defenseman in "training". We got plenty of defensive defenseman to let him grow into his potential...but not at 4 million. That's why Bbinz didn't trade for him.

At 3 million, he's a top 6 with upside. At 4 million, he's our second most expensive defenseman and is no one's top 2D. Not on a top 16 team.

Good for him...and too bad for the Kraken.

There were rumors of a Blues trade to the Habs, at least a mid round second before we went on the run. But there was nothing about how much he wanted which Bbinz would of found out. That would reduce his trade value to maybe a negative value.

I think there are a lot of people sleeping on Dunn. The Blues should have game him more ice time against better competition. It would have hurt for a little while he adjusted, but he would have grown and been a bigger contributor for it. I expect he will grow quite a bit in Seattle.

Yeah it's terrible. If you think he's got potential, give him a long term contract betting on the player. If not, why the hell draft him over Tarasenko.

Francis has been all medium risk-lowest possible reward and its absolutely grating to watch.
