Padres wanthttps://twitter.com/JimBowdenGM/status/1554505716244877312?s=20&t=3PM49ZehrDTlOjfctfmacA to get rid of his salary to stay below luxury line. Nats get more prospects if they take him
I think their goal is to dump $ for 2023 and beyond, Myers expires after this season (20 M team option for 2023 with 1 M buyout, it will be declined).

His contract does go down to $13M a year though starting next year, if he accepts his player option, which he obviously will.

Sorta feel like the Nats should be able to flip Hosmer anyways if the Padres are still gonna pay him.

SD was my clear favorite for Soto after Seattle traded their top minor leaguers for Castillo. Padres will get to have Soto for at least 3 postseasons, assuming they are contenders. The big question for me is whether they'd be willing to add a 3rd contract to their payroll for over $300 million.

11:36am: Hosmer is “not thrilled” about the idea of waiving his no-trade protection to go from a contender to a rebuilding club, tweets Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times. Bowden, meanwhile, adds that San Diego would remain on the hook for Hosmer’s salary over the 2023-25 seasons if he were included in the deal, with the Nationals only picking up the remainder of this year’s money.

Ready to bet Soto goes to Dodgers now

That's awesome he blocked it... That was a shitty thing to do by San Diego .... Hoping the pressure of announcing the deal would make him agree to move across the country to a rebuilding team... Screw that

Well done Eric

If the Padres are willing to eat the remainder of Hosmer's contract, I actually feel like he'd have some legitimate value. He's not a bad player, he just has an awful contract.

Is Morosi serious on MLB Network?

He opened his interview saying "Future HOF Juan Soto to Padres"

Soto is great and all but saying he is HOF at this point is absurd

Hosmer 2018-2022 - 103 OPS+, .325 OBP, WAR under 6.5 totally.

He's mediocre.
