I'd love to have the option to choose my audio streams. If something crazy happens, turn on commentary, then go back to rink sounds when play resumes. Or have multiple pbp streams you can choose from, and which anyone can make. I'd tune in to someone like Bill Burr doing the odd game, maybe integrate it into VR.

At the very least there should be an option to turn off the commentary. I think some European soccer leagues have that option on certain channels and you can decide for yourself.

There are times when I don't mind the commentary at all. Completely scrapping commentary is not my cup of tea.

A good friends dad would routinely turn off the sound on HNIC.So if you can't stand the chatter, there's that.

HBO hockey. Mic it up!

I’ve been waiting years and years for this.

Give the players and coaches hot mics, give the announcers license to say whatever they want. Show at least some of the locker room footage during intermission. Interview players in the penalty box.

I’d get cable, just for the HBO subscription, just for this.

But how are you going to hear "this pp is presented to you by...".

That's exactly it, they need those shameless plugs, everything's got a sponsor these days.

I know it's a different medium but I couldn't make my drive to work without hearing a snippet of TSN Radio going on about "the FIFA 2018 World Cup Russia"!

If you can have adult swim on cartoon Network you can have some naughty words by players. It's so random and stupid what's acceptable and not.

God no.

They tried it in the NFL in the 80's (I think. It was a long time ago) and it was terrible.
The NFL is the last sport that should try that. When you only get 16 seconds of gameplay every 5 minutes, you have to fill up the downtime with something.

Actually, I think Baseball is the last sport that should try it.
But that's not really the point anyway.

People complain about bad commentary -- and there is a lot of it -- but great commentary can do wonders to make an otherwise-bland game incredible TV. If Chris Cuthbert or Gord Miller or Jim Hughson are calling the game I'm watching, it sucks me in and it's incredible.

I have a feeling a lot of the snowflakes on here would catch mega feels if they heard what the players said on the ice.

Considering they've already started neutering players based on PC demands, this will never happen and players would be 100% for it.

CBC's on-air personalities went on strike, I'm going to guess early/mid 1970s. For a few weeks they did exactly this. I remember thinking at the time that it was pretty cool but was pleased when the personalities returned. It didn't have staying power.
