Ethan Moreau (one of the Habs western scouts) was there too
Source: someone on twitter put up a pic of a list of all scouts at the game (like 8-10ish teams on there)

This speculation thread is an utter waste of time. Teams send pro scouts anywhere and everywhere for advanced analysis of upcoming opponents, not necessarily for any trading.

FACT: Habs play the Coyotes twice in the next two months. Four important points against a western conference team that they may not always have a chance to run advanced scouting with.

FACT: Habs have several prospects in the WHL (Scherbak, Bozon, Lernout) and in the west of the USHL (Hawkey, Koberstein) and it is entirely plausible that Mellanby is doing some player development work with prospects and caught an NHL game on his way in or out of the area.

I really dislike when people run rumours based on the presence of scouts at NHL games. Example: a close friend was a pro scout for the Canucks and based in Mtl (he now scouts prospects) and he was at almost every Habs home game. Reporters would mention his presence on Twitter as if to suggest that Habs/Canucks were cooking something up. Reality is that he was more often than not there to evaluate future opponents, do systems analysis etc.

Moral of the story: don't get a semi-chub when you hear about Mellanby at another NHL game.

No one is running rumors, no one is speculating. This threat is just saying during the arizona-calgary game, mellanby was spotted on tv. the rest is left to you to imagine.

What's with those deals with a first round picks like it'S nothing?

A lot of good nhl'ers were late first rounders, David Pastrnak, Tanner Pearson are good examples in the past years. I would keep it unless we are dealing for a player of very high caliber.

You must be a joy at parties with your fancy facts.

Same here...would love to know where this rumor comes from.

Please don't tease!;)

From what websites? (curious!).

DD for Vermette...where do I sign?!

(I'm not that interested in Vermette, but...for DD...YES!! DD alone or DD+_?_...?).

If I'm the Coyotes' GM...I'm selling a lot for many PICKS and decent prospects.
I'd definitely go for McDavid or Eichel...definitely.

You'd have to win the lottery to be guaranteed one or the other. Finish second last and you have only 1 out of 3 to not to move down to third.

Arizona should be active on the market. The Coyotes won'r make the playoffs and they have tradeable assets. They need prospects and drft picks more than veterans. Calgary doesn't fall into the same category, so it's doubtful that they'd be a trading partner for the Habs.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Yandle is worth a million times more than either player. The Eller love here is crazy.

We don't get past the first round with Pleks, Chucky, DD and Manny as our C even if we aquire Yandle. If we trade away Eller, we need a center coming back in that trade to fill the hole the trade creates.

Pierre Lebrun on tsn video thing and he said the owner of Arizona told their GM to send out meno to the league that everyone on roster is available. Lebrun said they want to rebuild. Currently Yotes are 4th last and should have a shot at McDavid or Eichel.

coincidence? Mellanby at the game.

Arizona's owner doesn't want to take on any long term contracts, so they will be asking for draft picks, prospects and players with lesser salaries than players traded.

Yotes want picks and worse players so their tank can be empowered. They'll take DD if high picks come along with him.

This is quite true, similar to the Bourque/Allen deal, salary cap restraints for a team like Arizona is well known. Getting a younger team using their veterans as trade bait to acquire good draft picks is a much used program in the NHL.

The memo has been issued no doubting that, IMHO.

How about DD + Andrighetto + Gilbert + 1st + 3rd for Yandle and Handzal

DD + Andrighetto + Bournival + Gilbert + 2015 1st & 2nd + 2016 1st & 2nd = (Keith Yandle + Mikkel Boedker + Martin Hanzal) and the Habs take on Shane Doan's or Antoine Vermette's contract at March 2nd deadline, Habs win the Stanley Cup barring serious injuries.
They would have to take back some salary to make the deal work, very few teams have the cap room the Habs have, but still they couldn't take on that much salary.

Maybe, but puck moving should not be a concern of ours. Wth PK, Markov, Beaulieu (and Gibert who's supposed to be good at it too) we should be more than fine in that regard, acquiring Yandle would be a waste IMO.

Given the strategy Habs use, we should focus on a dump along da boards expert for our D squad

We'd get much, much better on D with Yandle. But absolutely awful at C losing Eller.
Who the hell cares? If you can get Yandle for basically Eller... you do it. Especially since that offer also had Vermette included. And getting rid of the Emelin albatross contract.

Vermette was coming back in the proposed deal as well. Our centre depth would be fine.

Someone answer me this? Why in the actual **** would you fly to another city to watch or scout a player when you can just watch them on TV?

Are you serious?

When you watch a player live, you watch their entire shift, you see what they do away from the puck and you can monitor every aspect of the game. On television, you only see action within a tight proximity of the puck.

This....all the media were in on the Arizona are going full rebuild mode...so you will see alot of executives and scouts watching their team...let's hope the Habs can get in on this auction, so to speak...

Agreed, we do not want to lose Eller moving towards the playoffs...his offense is not what we would like to see, but he doesn't get much if any PP time...he does produce well 5 vs 5 and was fantastic in the playoffs last year...
