He was amazing for the Flyers, especially in the 2010 playoffs and the year he played with Giroux and Jagr (37 goals I believe). I remember him very positively.

Was it ever explained why Hartnell always seemed to hate Dion Phaneuf? I remember when the Leafs and Flyers use to play they would always be going after each other and there was that time 2012 All Star Game when Hartnell said this to him.

He also gets paid by Columbus. $3 million this year and then $1.25 million for the next 2 years after this. Dude made like $57 million in his career. That's a sweet retirement.

I got a kick out of Hartnell but the steady decline meant it was time.

Didn't matter what jersey he was wearing, just hated to see him come to town.

Good bye, thank God.

A hockey player with a personality. Don't forget #HartnellDown and the donations he made every time he busted ass on the ice (remarkably often for a professional). Also the children's book. Great guy. Hope to see him take the place of one of the NBCSN studio buffoons sometime soon.

When I didn’t know any better, I hated him. He did lay a pretty nasty/dirty hit on Johnny Boychuk many years back.

That being said...he was not a dirty player. He had a hilarious on-ice presence, in physical appearance, antics, and verbage/trash talk. And, he got where he was hardly on talent, but rather on being a determined, gritty player. Every sign off the ice points to him being a genuinely good guy.

Best of luck to him in retirement.

plus being an all star, and played 1249 games. 700 points. If he had won a cup it doesn't get much better than that.
