Wow, pretty road heavy to start the season...

That's because we gotta parade around Matthews to everyone. Also nice of them to accommodate Matthews and have his first game in Arizona during Christmas

Nice of the NHL schedule makers to give Matthews a game in Arizona just before the Christmas break. Allow him a few more days with his family.

Edit: I see this was already pointed out. Cheers!

I believe there is a mini camp and pre-season game in Halifax against Ottawa, although I don't think Matthews will be there due to world cup.

4 of 5 games on the road to start the season... Makes it tough to get started strong.

Hate that.

Add on the World Cup of Hockey to shorten and interrupt training camp, with all of the Leafs kids and new faces, I bet the Leafs start slow and we'll see a lot of growing pains in October and November. But once they're adjusted I bet they'll be tough to beat.
