Long time HF reader here, not much of a poster. I saw this on a few of the other teams forums and I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on a San Jose Sharks Mt. Rushmore. Four players who you think have left their legacy on the team, or who have shaped the team and their identity today.

Rules are simple:
1 Forward
1 Defenseman
1 Coach
1 Goalie

For me I'd have to say
F: Owen Nolan
D: ME Vlassic
G: Nabokov
C: Constantine

I saw this on hockeybuzz (Foundation Four) and there was no slot for coaches. If that's so I nominate:

F: Owen Nolan
D: Marc Edouard Vlassic
G: Evegni Nabokov
F: Joe Thornton

Honorable Mention: Patrick Marleau

I'm going to throw out the rules and pick the four guys who've had the biggest imprint on this franchise as a player or in management or both:

1.) Doug Wilson
2.) Owen Nolan
3.) Patrick Marleau
4.) Joe Thornton

4.) Joe Thornton

I will list them both way:

As requested:
1)Thornton
2)Vlasic
3)Nabby
4)TMac

But the real top 4 to me (in no order)

1)Doug Wilson
2)Thornton
3)lNolan
4)Marleau

Goalie & Coach are easy -> Nabby and TMac
With his long tenure as a Shark already, I'd have to go w/ Vlasic for defense
The hardest one is for Forward since it's between Nolan/PM/Jumbo. Marleau has been a Shark since day one, but I would have to go with Thornton because he has also been here what 10 years and has been a superstar and the face of the the franchise.

Here it is!

F: Thornton
D: Vlasic
G: Nabokov
Coach: McLellan

As of now the players-only Rushmore would be

Nolan, Thornton, Marleau, Nabokov

We've never had a defensemen that was really as important to the franchise as any of those players

TMac is probably the best coach we've ever had, but I wouldn't etch his face in stone or anything

If we go by the original criteria:

F: Marleau (over Thornton because he's home-grown/a Sharks lifer)
D: Vlasic
G: Nabokov
C: McLellan

If we go just with players with no positional restrictions:

Marleau
Thornton
Nolan
Nabokov

If we include off-ice coaching/management:

Marleau
Thornton
Nabokov
Wilson

Btw this topic was started by the New Yorker as the top 4 franchise players not positional.

Which in SJ it's tough to go against
Nolan
Thornton
Nabokov
Marleau

Now if broken down into the 4 categories listed including coach...that's just difficult as all hell. Picking between Nolan, JT and Marleau ain't easy.

Nabokov is the only defacto nominee
SJ coaching has seen bright spots even early on so good luck picking between Sutter, TMac and Constantine
As for defense it has to be between Boyle and Vlasic but it's going to be Vlasic's honor as long as he stays in SJ for another few seasons.
