So this seems to have answered the "what could go wrong" with an emphatic "everything" as expected.

Between the St. Louis game and the first two periods of the Carolina game, the goalies gave up 11 goals on 41 shots. That's a .732 save percentage. Per Natural Stat Trick, it's about 5.5 goals above expected in just 5 periods. Say what you will about the rest of the team, but you simply cannot win in the NHL with goaltending like that. It is not possible. If Adams wants to try to save the season, he needs to acquire a goaltender.

Whats the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

Welcome to Granato and coaching staff.

If you watch the games you would see 9 out of 10 goals isn't the goalie's fault.

Like the one scored on the powerplay there wasn't a sabres player within 10 feet of the goal.

Not even Hasek himself would have won last night.

The pass came from the point through 2 sabres players to the wide open Teravainen.

What coach on the bench teaches a 3 high 1 low system on the PK?

The goalies need to MAKE SAVES.

That is what Binnington did Friday. Even though we missed 4 open nets, he still made like 15 saves he should not have made. UPL made 1 Friday, Comrie made none yesterday

In the NHL, goalies need to make big saves, not merely the saves they are supposed to make

If you think Hasek had no chance, you either never watched Hasek or you forget just how good he is. Go watch the Flyers Sabre game from April 1998 in the final week of the season (the one where he made the blocker save on Klatt). Comrie would have allowed 15 that night

Goalies aren't the problem here imo. Sure they can play better but even Roy quit on his team because defense was so bad.

I remember Patrick Roy got humiliated against Detroit. It was 9-1 before Roy was pulled from the net by Mario Tremblay by the way the same thing Granato does to our goalies. Patrick Roy told Montreal president he would never play for Montreal again.

Patrick Roy was traded and went on to win the Stanley Cup with Colorado that same year.

Granato does the same things to our goalies. He humiliates them. He leaves them in when you can see them struggling and things just get worse.

And no I am not comparing Roy to UPL, Comrie and Levi but the way Tremblay treated Roy feels similar. I don't think the way Adams and Granato handles the goalies is right. Sometimes we see 3-4 goals come quick against Buffalo and not even a time out to give the goalie a chance to reset. Something feels off about the way its handled.

I won't blame goaltending until the defense is fixed and there is a system in place.

The time for addressing that was over the offseason. It's too late, he already failed. He needs to shift to strategizing for next year. He's so f***ing slow, he needs to start planning for next season now.

Pretty spot on, I find a lot of posters though are quick to dismiss this and think the defense is the only problem but a getting a shut down defense would only Band-Aid the problem in net and the problem is, we don't have consistent goalies.

If you look at the top 10 goalies, they often make saves they shouldn't have made and stop the ones they should have.

They don't look the same do they. Let me know when Top goalies in the league allow 1-2 goals when the shot chart looks like that. You gonna look at that and blame Comrie and not defense?

Look at the concentration of shots below the top of the circle for Carolina and then look at Buffalo.

st

he didn’t replace Quinn after he went down before free agency

he didn’t address goaltending and now it’s a completely expected mess

He didn’t address top 4 D like everyone in the world has known for three years he needed to

he didn’t address defensive forward

he didn’t address toughness

he didn’t address faceoffs

replacing Bryson and Stillman with an old man and a bum is not doing stuff. It’s wasting another year. Team will never get closer as long as he ignores the problems. If he’d have done the bare minimum the last few offseasons we’d still be a couple players away. Where are we when he punted repeatedly on all of it? Years away. Years and years. And he never bothers to start.
He has Benson/Rosen/Kulich, I doubt there was a reasonable priced player available that could replace Quinn

Nobody addressed goaltending because there wasn't any upgrades available. Not sure what you wanted him to do there

He signed Clifton to shore up the top 4. Power regressing probably wasn't in the cards.

He traded for Greenway at the deadline and he has been great for the PK

He signed Johnson/Clifton, traded for Stillman. Not sure what else you would want.

The faceoffs, sure but everyone bitched when we had Eakin.

This isn't NHL 24 where if you are needing to fill a whole you can go out and acquire a high end player at a whim.

Adams will need to do something in the next couple of weeks, whether it is a trade or coaching change but a message needs to be sent.

This team gets results when they go to the net and then the next game are allergic to it.

They also struggle moving bodies out of the front of the net, the forwards need to help out in the regard as well.

It truly does seem like a toxic place for a goalie to play. Since Miller left.

It's interesting to bring up Binnington. All 4 of the Sabres goals should've been saved. He let in more bad goals than UPL did.

Defensively speaking the Sabres are making multiple catastrophic mistakes most games that are pretty much guaranteed to go in the back of the net.

Goaltending has been fine this season. The defensive breakdowns are a much bigger issue. You can't give up a 2 on 0 rush and then complain about needing a goalie to make saves. Or allow a cross ice pass to an unmarked forward a foot from the crease
