Ryan Ellis, late in the season is 4th in OHL scoring, and has the highest points/game ratio of any player, including forwards.

With 3 points tonight, Ellis has 95 in 55 games. :amazed:

This guy is the real deal in my opinion. That's pretty amazing if you ask me. Which you didn't. But anyways...

Thoughts?

Can you find TOI for the CHL anywhere?

YOW
what ellis has done this year is pretty ridiculous. Watching him, there are still question marks on how his all-round game will translate to the NHL level, but the raw skill says worst case scenario he's a ~40pt PP specialist.

Ahem, tied with Joey Hishon at 1.73 PPG.

You've been FACT CHECKED!

Fair enough. Hishon has 0.0018939 more points per game. My bad. I checked a couple days ago and looked today, saw the points of the top scorers hadn't changed enough to beat Ellis and forgot about Mr. Hishon since he's down the list a bit. I am sorry and I'm sure my credibility is now 0.

Isn't Ellis 20? If he didn't put up big numbers I'd be worried. We have yet to find out how he will translate to the NHL, which is the only concern about his game. Tons of guys have big seasons as 20 year olds playing in a junior league and can't find that production at the NHL level. Im not saying he won't be a good dman just that Its too early to label him as the real deal.

TOI isnt a stat that is kept by the CHL, however I have personally kept track of his ice time a few times, and this kid plays in ALL situations and logs around 40min a night. Throughout the season I have kept track 5 times (all home games of course) and all 5 times he's logged more than 40min a game! One game comes to mind when he had a 5min shift! You ask how is it possible? he was out for his regular shift, than the team was given a PP, stays out the whole 2min but at the tail end of it they are awarded another 2min PP, stays out for the entire thing.

He's 20 because of his early birthday, he still technically could play in the OHL next year as an overage.

defintely averaging 30 mins a game for the spits

scokan's right, it's more like 40 minutes a night. Last Sunday's game the Spits took a time out in the middle of OT and you knew it was just to give Ellis a rest, I think he was off the ice for a total of 40 seconds for the whole 5 minute OT. Ryan Ellis is the Spits D, no question.

With 3 games to go will he hit 100 points?

Who was the last OHL or CHL for that matter, defenseman to hit 100 points?

And he will be staying in Milwaukee after the CHL season along with Latta, Beck, Maybe Charles Olivier-Roussel.

Ben Ryan out of Notre Dame. Jeff Foss out of RPI if he doesn't finish his degree.

Only guys that might be left in the CHL who are Preds Prospects are Austen Watson and he's got 4 years of CHL already and Taylor Aronson.

I knew there was someone in between wasn't sure who though. Nobody of sustence. Would he impressive or Ellis though.

Denis Potvin and Doug Crossman both did it, but they were well before Bryan Fogarty.

Chirs Allen (former FLA 3rd rounder) was so close with 94 points in 1997-98 with Kingston.

I think I may have found the answer for the last defenseman to score 100 points in the CHL. The QMJHL has a much, much more in depth system for searching for records than the OHL or WHL.

D Danny Groulx (undrafted) posted 112 points for Victoriaville in the 2001-2002 season. http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=35771

Other notables:

Michel Periard (OTT, RD 7, 1998 Draft), 100 points for Rimouski, 1999-00
Derrick Walser (Undrafted), 110 points for Rimouski, 1997-98
Frederic Bouchard (Undrafted), 101 points for Chicoutimi / Rouyn-Noranda, 1996-97
Steve Gosselin (Undrafted), 106 points for Chicoutimi, 1993-94

Prominent players who have come close to doing this in the last 10 years:

Francois Beauchemin, 86 points in 1999-00
Keith Yandle, 84 points in 2005-06
