I think I may have found the answer for the last defenseman to score 100 points in the CHL. The QMJHL has a much, much more in depth system for searching for records than the OHL or WHL.

D Danny Groulx (undrafted) posted 112 points for Victoriaville in the 2001-2002 season. http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=35771

Other notables:

Michel Periard (OTT, RD 7, 1998 Draft), 100 points for Rimouski, 1999-00
Derrick Walser (Undrafted), 110 points for Rimouski, 1997-98
Frederic Bouchard (Undrafted), 101 points for Chicoutimi / Rouyn-Noranda, 1996-97
Steve Gosselin (Undrafted), 106 points for Chicoutimi, 1993-94

Prominent players who have come close to doing this in the last 10 years:

Francois Beauchemin, 86 points in 1999-00 (QMJHL)
Keith Yandle, 84 points in 2005-06 (QMJHL)

Added:
Brian Cambell, 87 points in 1998-99 (OHL)

So he can play defense? :D

Haha, yes, contrary to what some people say, Ellis can play defense (at least the OHL level). He's proven that with his play this year now that he's lost the solid defense core he was surrounded by the last two seasons in Windsor.

Hoping he can get 5 points in the last 3 games of the season to hit 100 points in his last season. God knows he'll see plenty of ice time with two games against Saginaw who the Spits are fighting for the division title.

And Ryan Ellis hits 100 points!

He becomes only the 6th CHL defenseman to hit the 100 mark in the last 17 years! :handclap:
And the first OHL defenseman to do it since Bryan Fogarty (1988-89), 22 years ago.

Very impressive achievement.

Denis Potvin and Doug Crossman both did it, but they were well before Bryan Fogarty.

Chirs Allen (former FLA 3rd rounder) was so close with 94 points in 1997-98 with Kingston.

Cam Plante had 140 points as a defenseman in the WHL in 1984

It makes me sick when I think about the Preds future defense even without Hamhuis now.

Weber, Suter, Blum, Josi, Ellis...crazy!

Just glad we got Fowler before Nashville.
