Melnyk might need to bring in salary to reach the cap floor. Not that I expect him to want to do that via Lucic.

Teams don't use expensive contracts to reach the floor. They use insured LTIR contracts or contracts with superficial cap hits because the player is 35+ and retired.

Dzingel will end up getting a nice return from a team who is desperate due to a lack of cap space. 1.8M is incredibly low as a cap hit for a top six forward. There'll be a team that cannot fit anybody else in and overpays for Dzingel because of it.

Do you think Ottawa would take a better guaranteed return from a team who definitely can’t sign him over a lesser but condition-laden deal from a team that may actually be able to extend him?

2nd + Bear

Add a 2nd in 2020 if he comes signed

I'd rather just do Bear + 2nd + 2nd for an extended Dzingel
Losing Bear + 2nd for a rental would be too much to lose for a team with not many assets to begin with (Thanks Chia)
