This post absolutely nailed it.

Kids got great hands and not much else. He’s still got trade value though and I’d move him now before the rest of the league figures that out...
Don’t you think he can work on it? Look at how far Miller’s skating has come. Donato is still young.

For his sake, I hope he does. I genuinely like the kid.

I’d still trade him in a heartbeat if the right deal presented itself.
I’d trade either in the right deal. I think it’s impossible to say who will be better right now because they both have great tools but haven’t put them together. It would be interesting to see what Bjork and Senyshyn look like with Bergeron, but there obviously isn’t enough room.

Next time Bjork gets a callup, and I think it will be soon, he should play in the top 6 when Bergeron comes back.

He seems to have forgotten what he learned in Providence, he's back to floating defensively :(

He was never good defensively. Leach's comment on Donato a week before his call up was "a slow work in progress". Another area where he's been exposed is his core strength. When he is checked very often he falls down.

His game, as it stands now, reminds me a bit of Pasta`s in his first year although clearly Pasta has that game breaker element of his game.

1st year, you could sneeze on him and he`d go down

D play was suspect at best but the B`s weren`t necessarily in the luxury they are now to push him down to Providence and someone there be good enough to play NHL minutes

Bailed out on plays along the wall

I see an improvement to Donato`s overall game with work to do. Once he starts consistently implementing and rounding out his game, I think we`ll see that showing up with production, the two, IMO, go hand in hand more often than not

If he remains teachable, he`ll be a real nice player

I also think he'll be a good player, but remember that Donato is 4 years older than Pasta was his rookie year. He should be a lot stronger.

good point, I like the kid, we shall see what happens. Truthfully, if the B`s were in a spot to make a deal and it came down to moving one of Donato or Bjork, I like Bjork`s game more. I think the kid has game breaker potential and while his game defensively and physically is far from the finished product, I see a willingness to get his nose dirty that I don`t see as consistently from Donato.

Bingo. That's my main concern. He'll be 23 yrs old in several months. Exactly how old does a scoring forward in the NHL need to be before he starts gaining strength? Seems to me like he should already have decent strength. From what I've seen of him with the Bs he is very weak physically and gets pushed off the puck with ease. Forget about him winning many board battles, even when he decides to engage. Improved technique can perhaps make up for some lack of strength, but at a certain point you simply have to be strong to play in this league. Not discounting him due to this. Just concerned. Hopefully he fully devotes himself in the offseason to getting stronger and becomes a great player for the Bs.

Ryan "Wrist shot from the top of the circle" Donato

I only watched the third, but there was a play late in the game where he had the puck, Heinen was driving the net, and JFK was trailing slightly at the top of the right circle. He could have shot/passed to the middle in the hopes of Heinen getting a piece, but I thought for sure he would go cross ice to JFK. Instead, he took a wrist shot from below the top of the circle that the D partially black blocked and missed the net.

Right now, to me, he’s like that QB that was a great runner in college. Now he’s in the pros and every time he’s under duress, he runs the ball.

That’s Donato with his shot. Imo, he has the the offensive skills to do more and needs to be better.

His decision making is questionable. There was a play in the second period at 4.50min to go. Heinen, Acciari and Donato on forecheck. Donato just glides, too lazy make any contact, sort of gets lost behind Pittsburgh defense. Acciari creates a turnover at the blue line, Heinen is quickly able to make tape to tape pass to alone Donato who instead of taking shot goes around the goalie and makes pass to blue paint where is nobody.

Hes not perfect but he has an appetite to score and the talent to get the job done

Im a fan of his potential and as long as he keeps his confidence up, i would suffer his growing pains with the big club

He wanted to shot and got stick checked when he went to release. It was actually a pretty smart play for him to regather the puck, recognize the goalie was down and then try to wrap around for a goal.

I am still not sure why they recalled him at this time. Ten games five goals -1. Not sure but it does seem like the Bruins are forcing the issue here. I would send him back for a good stretch. Plain and simple not ready for this level but I do believe he will be a player.

He works on his skating the offseason and he becomes lethal

He’s Frank Vatrano

Come on, now. That’s a little bit disingenuous, to say the least.

1. Vatrano is short and stocky, Donato is taller and more of a wirey-build.

2. Donato has much softer hands than Vatrano, who handles the puck like it’s a hand grenade.

3. Although Donato isn’t the greatest skater, he’s already better than Vatrano if you ask me. Vatrano isn’t very nimble on his feet and he skates more like a straight-line grinder than anything. Donato is more agile and athletic on his skates.

4. Vatrano doesn’t have the ability to take over the offensive-zone with his vision or distribution, whereas Donato most certainly possesses those abilities. We’ve seen it, both in his stint last year and in bursts this year.

5. While I think Donato had a disappointing start, he just wasn’t ready yet and needed some time. That, and he was being relied on for far too much. Since returning after being in Providence, he’s looked like a much better player.

6. Be patient with Donato, he’s much more talented than Vatrano, even on his worst days.
