Pretty much just stat-watching, but came across a kid who is just 15 years old, but posting some astounding stats in the J18 Elit. In the best junior league in Europe, he currently has a 2.00 PPG in J18 Elite and a 0.67 PPG in J18 Allsvenskan being three years younger than the rest. He even got one game in the SuperElit as well. That's quite impressive.

Granted he is a late birthday for the 2020, but seems like he should be a top prospects for this draft if he keeps his development up. For the people who have actually watched him, what are your thoughts?

For comparison (around the same age including being older):
Landeskog PPG in J18: 1.39
F. Forsberg PPG in J18: 1.17
Wennberg PPG in J18: 0.92
W. Nylander PPG in J18: 1.53

Gunler is one of the best Swedes in his age group for sure, I like his goal scoring instincts a lot. His numbers in the northern J18 Elit division were a bit inflated though as he played on the best line in a league that only has ~3 quality teams. Still good numbers in J18 Allsvenskan (which only consists of the top 10 J18 Elit teams) but his production has gone down quite a bit.

Top Swede for me among the 01's is another (sigh) defenseman named Victor Söderström, he's got the talent to become a top prospect for the draft I think. The 01 age group looks pretty weak overall though.

Forwards Lucas Raymond and Alexander Holtz along with goalie Jasper Wallstedt are putting up phenom-like numbers. Those 02-born kids are worth keeping an eye on, probably already better on their position than any of the 01 kids.

He hasn't wasted any time, 3 goals in 3 games in SuperElit already. Some pretty nice ones too:

Bumping this thread to say this kid will be a top talent in the 2020 draft, outscored players like Cajkovic in the SuperElit last year and is only 16 years old. Elite wrist shot and fantastic release.

Anyone know why he was omitted from the swedish Hlinka team?

Not sure. Don't think he was injured but I could be wrong. He didn't have a very good finish to last season so that might have played in. Don't think he's been lights out in previous international tournaments either.

I’m just looking at stats and he seems to be off to a great start. Has he looked as good as the numbers suggest?
He’s quite good. 2020 is year of the Swede. Gunler’s goal scoring ability and wrist shot makes him a legit sniper. His release is quick and efficient and he puts great power into his shots. There’s times, as usual with snipers where he can dissapear, and his skating isn’t the best, but he’s got another year and a half to improve and he’s already putting up fantastic numbers. The disappearing act hasn’t happened in the SuperElit yet, he’s been playing lights out. His IQ also sets him apart, he thinks the game very well.

Good to hear. He actually sounds very similar to Alex Holtz, but is less talked about. Good to see some swedes who like to shoot the puck as they’re often much more inclined to pass it.

I think he has a lot of similarities with Oskar Lindblom (Flyers rookie). His two-way game is not quite as developed but his offensive game might be slightly better. Very effective when he gets the puck in a scoring area. Doesn't drive the play but could turn into a really nice complimentary piece on an NHL team.

Got the OT winner in a 6-5 win to end the night, now up to 20 points(10-10) in 12 games.
That's insane numbers. He tops SuperElit scoring being 1-2 years younger than the ones behind.
Interview with the coach from two days ago in the local paper (Google Translate):
Success players praise: "Lethal"

ICE HOCKEY Eight goals and nine assist - in just eleven matches. 17-year-old Noel Gunler continues to impress in the J20 superelit. "He has a heck of a shot and is deadly in powerplay, where he is already SHL-ready. And it's not a question of whether he will go to SHL." Without a question, "says Luleås Hockey's Junior Director Urban wikberg.

Unlike the one year younger Jesper Wallstedt, Noel Gunstedt has yet to do any training with the A team.
But according to Urban Wikberg, it's only a matter of time before he gets the chance.
"We've talked so little about it, but it's no stress. Noel is still very young. And he may not be a player for a fourth line, we think it's better to wait till we can offer him the right conditions, he says.
Urban Wikberg strongly believes in Noel Gunler.
He has things he needs to develop. Like the game without puck, and the match game. But he has a damn shot and is deadly in powerplay. There he is already SHL-ready. And it's not a matter of whether he will get to SHL. Rather a matter of when. He has started this season really well, and has every chance to go far. I think he will be ready to play with the big guys within a year, he says.
He is also convinced that Noel Gunler will be drafted early.
Just like Isac Lundeström.
- He was born late in the year, and will not be drafted until next summer. He and Isac are different kinds of players. But he has qualities that usually appeal to the clubs over there, and is certainly ranked high by them, "he says.

Train keeps chugging on with 3 points in a 6-2 game against Timrå, now at 11-12 for 23 points in 13 games to further extend his lead.
