Currently destroying the BCHL right now, with 5 goals, 7 assists in 4 games.

It's 4 pre season games but yes he is lighting it up and should continue to do so through the season as he is playing with 19 year old Ellis Rickwood who is a Clarkson commit for next season .

LOL you're right, I got too excited and I thought they started already.

Also really surprised no one took a flyer on Rickwood in the draft.

He was ranked 144th by Central scouting last year and frankly as an overage guy for the draft he is playing in a weak league which doesn't help really.

Watching clips of him, nothing really stands out but who knows how he looks at college when he gets there.

Wood on the other hand looks like an exciting prospect.

Another 2G, 2A night. Playing some abysmal teams though. Still unreal numbers for a 16 year old in the BCHL.

Agree and his line is up to 5-7-5-12 and he still has another year in the BCJHL after this which makes me wonder in only hockey terms would he be better served to play with the Regina Pats next season?

Hockey terms, for sure. Can you imagine him on Bedard's wing? :win:

But he's really committed to the college route.

That was exactly what I was imagining.

Maybe he can take some courses and go to college next year but another year in the BCHL would be a waste IMO.

Still early, he's playing with two 19 year olds on the best line in the BCHL.

Next year might be interesting because he would have to carry the team.

He's off to a pretty ridiculous start for a 16 year old in the BCHL; up to 11 goals in 8 games. By comparison, Kent Johnson only put up 20 goals (in 57 games) as a 16-year old, Newhook scored 22 in 45 and Jost 23 in 46.

How long before he switches his commitment to Michigan? :sarcasm:

Yes, very impressive start. He may just put up better 16-yr old stats than all those others. But he's also completely different player than the others. He's a huge power forward, while the others are shifty, smaller centres.

Alex Newhook in his draft year paced for about 104 pts in a 54 game season for Victoria.

Matthew Wood is on pace for 119 pts in a 54 game season in his D-1 year (the suspension will keep him from playing 54 games, just talking pace).

He has size at 6'0" 185. How long before he enters the top ten conversation for the 2023 draft?

He is a great prospect but seriously there are so many other elite guys that year and quite a few centers and guys performing on a bigger stage.

my guess is that if he works into the top 10 he has some showing among his peers that impresses the scouts, ie a tournament or a move to a higher level.
