Its kinda strange see Dats on the first PK unit lol. I mean Dats is pretty good but not exactly a PK specialist. Its kinda telling about the Russian forwards. Hopefully being on the first like for Russian will spark Dats play when he gets back. Not that he was playing badly at all, but I'm hoping he elevates his game to the next level for the rest of the reg season and playoffs.

Dats has played in a decent amount of defensive situations under Babcock. He is underated defensively. Nobody steals the puck like Datsyuk.

I watched some of all the games. So far, this is the most fun to watch.

Yashin's line and (to much lesser extent) Kozlov's line are playing solid, safe hockey.. Yashin especially is clicking with his two little agile wingers. No complaints about the Datsyuk line - no sustained pressure, but two goals out of 2.5 chances speaks for itself. Malkin's line not really into the game yet, but they are all showing flashes of speed.

Many breakdowns on defense. Can't comment on that yet, individually I thought our D was very good, very effective hits - one of the hits should've gotten an assist on Kovy's goal! But there is obviously no team concept on D yet - no suprise at this point - and this is what will make or break this team in the final round. Well, they've got 5 games to figure it out.

So far, I like what I am seeing! The lines are clicking, I think, as well as one could expect for the 1st game. And Kovy's goal has already justified all the waiting for the hockey to start - what a beauty!

Really you got all of that from watching a line of immature magicians who want to hog puck?

LMAO! Sort of kidding, that line was not very good. Malkin is a beast though. These guys will get it together. I really do not like Afinogenov at all though. The guy just doesn't score, but has about a gazillion moves:) Like watching a skilled Kris Draper:)
I wasn't commenting on the whole line (which looked pretty average), but on Malkin (who looked better than Red Bull). I was impressed in particular with another fact that Malkin played on PK and was staying with his man on a defensive coverages in a 5-on-5 play.

Very entertaining game so far, two fast, offensive teams! I'm liking the Ovechkin-Malkin-Afinogenov line.

Super entertaining game so far. God I love the ice hockey players from the former eastern block. I wish more players could think hockey like Datsyuk does. He's the new professor.
