I would still take him. Guy just doesn't want to wear a jersey. He's not out there starting anti lgbtq riots. This is more on the media for trying to make a big story/peer pressure.

It’s about inclusivity and acceptance- it’s not just about “wearing a jersey”. The LGBTQ community has been persecuted and alienated since the beginning of time- maybe it’s time we support them

Inclusivity and acceptance by banishing and shaming any person that doesn't participate. That's the problem. It would be one thing if he was acting aggressively anti lgbtq. It's another thing to quietly try to avoid participating.

At the end of the day, he is a talented player that is going to be traded at reduced price. Some team will take advantage.

What kind of mental gymnastics is this? This just shows you have absolutely zero clue what the LGBTQ community has endured and gone through. None. See, the problem of staying silent is you condone the action. You are part of the problem. Defending him speaks volumes about you. Intolerance is something we should not accept. You do you and keep. Defending homophobia

So he’s homophobic now?

Take it somewhere else. This is a trade proposal thread.

Sorry, but you're the one doing gymnastics here.

But everyone who isn't gung ho for Provorov's head is now going to be labeled a bad person, bigot, transphobe, blah blah blah.

It's the all too common "that's racist and if you don't agree you're a racist too!" logic that gets fired around everywhere these days.

Burke was kind of bang on about it all. Go figure eh?
Problem is, it's sort of unavoidable. Like the nurse contract, after Jones had set the market, oilers were somewhat screwed, forced to a bad contract the moment it was signed.

You want more flexibility, pay players less.
100%.

It's actually kind of funny because all the managers all bitch and complained that they didnt have an even playing field. The NHL imposes a hard cap and then all of sudden it's a problem. Like GMs knew about this years ago.

It's like if I blew all my rent money at the casino and then complained that I had to pay rent.

I guess I just don't understand comparables logic when it comes to contracts. It doesn't seem to take into account the teams that players play for and how it affects the guys signing the contracts.

I can't remember if Makar signed after Jones. If he did, he clearly should have gotten more, and if he didn't, how on earth Jones got the same money and set the market for everyone else is mind boggling.

Just seems like piss poor negotiating.

My problem is that your team is paying you millions of dollars. You shake hands with the cash cows and superfans. If they ask you to wear a Jersey you do it. Provorov can do whatever he wants in his own time but to publically refuse its a slap in the face to the team and those supporting it.

Yeah there is probably pressure from the nhlpa and player agents to drive up prices too. But what is a GM supposed to do outside of preemptively trading ufa's. You can't just let a player walk for nothing, yet all your negotiating power is gone.

Gonna be really tricky to make moves if the team keeps winning with this defence. I don't think Holland would take any of the three young guys out of the lineup, given that developing those young guys seemed to be his plan to begin with. If they keep playing well, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the only move they make is bringing in a top six forward.

Yeah. I do think they jumped the gun on Nurse a bit, too. Worst case scenario is he comes out last year and continues that level of play outside the North division and shows you he's worth it and maybe more. In which case you're happy to sign a legit #1 to legit #1 money. Best case is he comes out and shows what he did, and you get him for less. They had all year to sign him, so it just looks like more of what Burke said. Bad approach. But the team was definitely in tough at the thought of having Nurse walk.

After watching the last few games, especially tonight, if I'm upgrading the Oilers at LD, I upgrade Kulak and move him in that deal.

Broberg can be 3LD

I really liked Kulak tonight as well. Watching him and Desharnais clearing guys out in front of the net is a thing of beauty.

This defense is so hard to figure out. Neither Broberg or Kulak are top 4 dmen right now but both look excellent playing 16-18 minutes a night. Nurse is playing too much and neither guy can eat those minutes.

On the right side Bouchard has looked great offensively but I'm not sure you can have both him and Barrie getting outmuscled. Ceci is a great defenceman but shouldnt be playing as a top defenceman.

The good news is we have a lot of depth but I still think we need at least 1 more top 4 dman and change the complexity of right side.

I want them to bring in a legit point per game forward like Horvat. I think that will make a bigger difference than a second pairing defenceman, and I think it'll be an easier deal to make. Plus, they have a good thing going with the young defencemen on this team right now, I don't think it's worth breaking it up.

Maybe Patrick Kane is still in the cards. He could probably fit that mold too.

I tend to agree but I would also ask "why would provorov refuse if he knew it would make people upset"? I would argue that he either didnt think this through or he has some very strong opinions against the LGBTQ community. Like what's the risk reward here? What's the benefit of refusing to wear the Jersey? Its not like they are asking him to wear assless chaps and skate around with a pride flag. The whole point was to show that part of the fan base the team supports them. The whole thing backfired when Provorov (an ambassador of the team) refused to support them.
I have no idea what his reasoning is so I won't speculate. All I know is people will immediately draw their conclusions and won't budge, and anyone who says they don't see a problem will also fall into the crosshairs.

Personally, I don't really care what he thinks so long as he isn't out verbally and physically assaulting people within the community. He's paid to play hockey at the end of the day, and touching on issues that have become highly politicized shouldn't run parallel with that.
