Hopefully they find a way to get it done. The tournaments have definitely been missing a powerhouse

They should be there. Too many minows at the IIHF events otherwise. Last year's tournament got lucky the Czechs had their best team in almost 20 years. But that might not repeat.

IIHF president responded to this news: “That’s rumors, nothing has been decided yet”

But he didn’t deny it :naughty:

It appears that FIFA just allowed Russia to participate in some central Asian tournament this Summer with games sanctioned by FIFA and results counting towards FIFA rankings
If FIFA does it, it must be ok,

It's a slippery slope if Russia stays banned, should USA be banned? Canada? You can't just only have 'good boy' nations.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is very unfortunate and unnecessary, but let’s be honest here, had Russia invaded Namibia or Somalia, the consequences would have been completely different

The way some people here are takling about the russian invasion of Ukraine is just disgusting. They talk like it isnt a big deal. It is apparantly more important to have another good team to look at in the WJC for their own pleasure, than sending all possible signals to Russia that what they is doing is NOT okey.
Wonder what the Canadians would have said if USA invaded them.

Also it seems like a lot of people thinks this is about punishing the young russian hockey players. It is not, this is about punishing Russia.

A coup, a peace treaty, an agreement on reparations, could all happen quickly enough for this to be possible. I just didn't think we'd see predictions of a Russian collapse coming through this soon.
Yea who could have predicted wartime propaganda.

Beyond the innocent people Russia is killing (which already justifies their exemption from any world sports) you know that Russia is killing Ukrainian athletes too? Many of the men that fight in this war would be future athletes in sports.

See the athlete in my profile photo? That is the Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World. Had the invasion been earlier in his career he would have been drafted into the war and potentially killed. When the sporting world realizes this they must deprive the athletes of the country of aggression of their ability to participate because that country is depriving future athletes of Ukraine. It is only fair, not for the Russian athletes themselves (who may not be for the war) but rather for all the athletes of Ukraine they are depriving.

A European collapse looks far more likely.

Even the IMF is projecting that the Russian economy will grow in 2023. Russian trade appears to have largely bounced back to where it was before the war last February. "countries like Turkey, China, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are stepping in to provide Russia with many of the products that Western countries have tried to cut off as punishment for Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine ... Fewer than 9 percent of companies based in the European Union and Group of 7 nations had divested one of their Russian subsidiaries. And maritime tracking firms have seen a surge in activity by shipping fleets that may be helping Russia to export its energy, apparently bypassing Western restrictions on those sales."

And what about the Ukrainian 17-19 year olds being denied their ability to participate in Sports because of Russia?
Ukraine played in the world juniors last year.

Why are people okay with Russians in the NHL but not ok with letting kids play in a tournament, when some are young enough that they can’t even vote?

Virtue signaling. Should the US have been banned for what we did in the Middle East? Why weren’t they?

I bet your definition of Ukrainians doesn't include those whose primary language in Russian and who want nothing to do with the coup-installed regime.

Pretty sure they’re participating in international events, except the ones that Zelensky abducted on the streets and threw unprepared to Bakhmut
lol "abducted on the streets".

I have family in Ukraine and my dad fought in the Soviet Army. He has friends that are direct generals and other positions of power in the military. You know that you can't even sign up for the Ukrainian army because too many men have already enlisted? So much for your Russian propaganda.

Russia is losing the war, that much is quite obvious. But the point of the thread is about playing hockey and its quite obvious that there should be, at minimum, a 10 year ban from hockey for being a terrorist state against Ukraine.

they shouldn't be banned either. There are bad actors on both sides but the kids shouldn't be held accountable for the actions of government. It's just sport.

As for Usyk, do you even know his stance before 2022? He wasn’t too vocal about the annexation of Crimea and travelled there without any issue hence why Ukrainian media often called him a traitor. Just like Lomachenko

There are hundreds of videos of Ukrainian military police chasing and abducting people right on the streets. There are interviews with Ukrainian soldiers saying the forcibly mobilized conscripts are given three days to train and then sent on the front lines.
I believe if you make any effort you will find it rather easily.
