They’ve already announced a huge casino/arena project south of the strip. Pretty sure FSG isn’t involved but that’s supposed to be where the NBA arena is being built. I think it’s the LA-based Oak View Group who is building it.

You seriously underestimate just how much of the Las Vegas population has come from Los Angeles and the rest of Raiders fandom. Plus the cities are close enough that it’s easy for LA residents to make day trips for Raiders games. There are tons who already do make weekend trips here since it’s just a 4-5 drive (or a quick cheap 1 hour flight).

That is a different project, there is a couple different groups trying to bring the NBA to LV

More watered down bad basketball

the league has grown around the world over the last 30 years. You could look at expansion covering the jobs for non NA players.

similar can be said on nhl expansion from 22 to 32 and seeing the % of roster spots growing among non Canadians.

vegas growth have come from all over. A good chunk from california.

California is too expensive for many.

washington stste has gotten a bunch of their population growth from transplants from califirnia

Probably waiting until 2024 for any expansion, post labor negotiations and new TV deal.

(Which would give OVG time to have their facility built and open, or close to.)

Lebron is pissed if they announce this now

Some of the names hungry to buy an NBA team according to Windhorst are insane

He is also trying to play long enough to play with his son Bronny. But with Bryce growing to 6’6 from like under 5’10 over the past year he may need to ply long enough to play with both of Bryce is good enough.

LeBron, estimated net worth $1B, who owns some of sports group, wants to own NBA team, when he retires.
Won’t be the majority owner but would be the face of the ownership group. Will have to partner with others.

Bronny still in HS, so with the one and done still, lebron needs to play 2 more seasons before Bronny could turn pro . So 24-25 season is when Lebron could play with his son. Bryce is 15, so 26-27 would be his first pro year at the earliest under current rules.

NBA is one of those leagues that REALLY shouldn't expand anymore. It's closer to an individual sport than any of baseball/hockey/football so by adding teams you're just creating more low end teams for superteams to beat up on. Unless they can find a way to make sure the best talent can't all get together on one team on purpose, it becomes almost unwatchable at times. It's silly.

I wish the NBA could become a 15-20 team league tbh

I think the idea is that Vegas could be a new superteam though, as many players would want to go there.

Still waters the league down more. It wouldn't make 1 more superteam, the best players would leave from one of the other hubs.

Totally agree on that, there's a lot of issues with the NBA that should be resolved. But Vegas has shown it can host top-level pro sports, and I don't think there's anything that is going to stop basketball from getting into there.

with how NBA does expansion, Vegas won't be a super team any time soon.

That was a massive mistake by the nba when they expanded into Canada. Got into a fit when Orlando landed back to back lottery wins to get Shaq and the pick that they moved that was Webber. Set them up.

Even with without top picks LV is going to be a destination city.

NFL and NHL showing that visiting fans will come visit to see their team play.

Would expect that to happen with NBA too, at least for a few years.

NBA something is bound to be entertaining. A few big dunks or some tough shots. Can’t say that about the nhl. NFL is an event.

I don’t foresee the nba limiting LV. They don’t need the draft picks. If guys are willing to sign there as free agents.

This was obvious. LeBron does not have the cash available for a team. He could probably secure a good chunk for himself like 5% or something and be the face.

I'm pretty sure he is wealthy enough to own more than 5%, maybe a 20-25% share?

Majority of these owners finance with some level of debt. An nba team goes for $2 billion now.

A drop in the bucket for FSG. LeBron will no doubt be the face of their NBA franchise off the court, same way Magic is with LA.

Hell, the Sox and Liverpool alone add up to $9b in value

If he liquidates, sure. A lot of his wealth is tied to SpringHill and other companies he has a stake in.

I'd imagine a Vegas expansion team would cost at least between $2-2.5bn - so he'd need half a billion cash for a 25% share even at the lower end of that figure.

I'm sure theres a good chance he would do it but he'd have to cut back on his other investments to make it possible.

Earvin Johnson is not the face of the Lakers..... hasn't been since the early 1990s..... or did the Buss family sell the Lakers outright and it wasn't reported by credible sources
