Marlies use big period to win playoff opener
Toronto scores four goals in second period to beat Bridgeport.

BRIDGEPORT, CONN.—Antoine Bibeau made 31 saves and the Toronto Marlies did all their scoring in the second period en route to a 4-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday to open their American Hockey League playoff series.
Justin Florek opened the scoring for Bridgeport in the first period and the Sound Tigers outshot Toronto 20-12 in the opening 20 minutes, but the Marlies responded in the second with four unanswered goals to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five first-round set.
T.J. Brennan put Toronto on the board with a power-play goal 4:36 into the second and William Nylander made it 2-1 four minutes later.
The Sound Tigers looked to be headed into the second intermission down by only one goal, but Nikita Soshnikov made it 3-1 at 19:43 and Connor Brown added another with just 0.3 seconds on the clock.
Connor Carrick and Josh Leivo each chipped in with two assists for Toronto.
Stephon Williams took the loss for Bridgeport while stopping 35 of 39 shots.
The Marlies went 1-for-3 on the power play while the Sound Tigers failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
Bridgeport hosts Game 2 on Sunday before the series returns to Toronto for Game 3 on Thursday.
