I doubt it. Aside from all the nhl wingers with contracts riding into next year (Kane, Ennis, Foligno, Gionta, Des, Moulson, and two of Larsson/Girgensons/Reinhart), to do so would also involve hurdling Baptise and Bailey, both of whom will have a year of pro play under their belt. No need to rush him, AHL will be a perfect place for him to get his first long pro season in.

Well in my view he is a better more effective player than either baptiste or bailey so jumping them is no huge obstacle.

As for the contract wingers, eh I think he could come out and br flat out better than Gionta, Des, Foligno and potentially Moulson. I think he forces himself on the team even if that requires someone to be rotated in as a 13th fwd.

I know he is in college so people don't see him a lot, but he is a tremendous player, in his role, which he has the discipline to stay within.

He's never played or even practiced against NHL players. Closest thing he's come to the NHL is prospects camp. I'd want to see him in a training camp before putting him anywhere on the depth chart.

When does everyone admit Cody Franson was a great signing?

Franson is doing exactly what he was brought here to do:

He's fine at being an offensive defenseman who can occasionally be a trainwreck in his own zone, especially when paired poorly.

I don't think everyone ever said it was a BAD signing.....but he hasn't been a GREAT signing.

He's fine for what he does.

Perfectly reasonable desire to wait and see. But I'll stick with my opinion. You don't need to see him play a few preseason tilts to know the kid has an nhl game. Plus, he will get some ahl time at the end of the season. I wonder if he pulls the mccabe sign me now but I want some nhl games at the end of the year, depending on where the sabres are at.

And in the wjc playing against and with several current nhlers he looked quite good. Particularly with Larkin.

No, it was a great signing. It didn't cost us much via money or term and nothing asset-wise and he is an NHL defenseman with size and fantastic hands and offensive puck sense. He's also slow but he's an upgrade over what other options were available.

I don't think he'll be a piece of the puzzle on our Stanley Cup runs but he's working in well and playing better by the game.

Don't know about the "great" moniker, but it was a good move by Murray as far as Plan B's go. But your analysis is otherwise spot on.

More importantly, Bogo will eventually eat a lot of the minutes Franson gets on the PK and in certain even strength situations. If we like Franson at 20 minutes a night, I have a feeling we're gonna love him at 16 minutes.

I saw that Bogosian was trending and expected to see something about surgery and will miss _ months of action. Glad he's practicing and hopefully he has fully recovered from the mystery ailment that has plagued him. Whatever the issue is, if it's something where he's going to play through it and have surgery later I would much rather him get the surgery, heal and be done with it. If we were talking about a player in his 30s I'm okay with him playing through it because his career is almost over anyways but when Bogo is 25 and the team is unlikely to be competing for a Cup this year, I'll take surgery over season-long pain/discomfort.

How much better will the D be by adding Bogo and dropping Weber/Cola?

Happy that this means a possible Weber as 7th or 8th d-man. Seriously, watching Weber play and his untimely icings/penalties, and telegraphed play around the boards, with the opposition closing it off, to try and clear the play instead of hitting the centerman waiting for the pass is infuriating.

Sounds like Bogosian will go to the left with Ristolainen.

I'm guessing Gorges - Pysyk and McCabe - Franson.

I think i'de rather McCabe - Pysyk and Gorges - Franson. Give Gorges - Franson low minutes 5 on 5, but big special teams minutes, Gorges PK and Franson PP.

Didn't jets fans say that bogo was not so good on the left side?

I'd prefer them to work in Bogosian a little slower than that. He didn't have a preseason and I don't think it's prudent to throw him into the toughest minutes right away. Even though I don't think Gorges belongs anywhere near the top pairing, I'd simply insert Bogosian for Colaiacovo and roll with Bogo-Franson for 2-3 games while Zach gets his sea legs. Thereafter, I'd put Bogo with Risto, Gorges with Pysyk, and McCabe with Franson.

this goes back to what I asked about with Buffalo dressing 7 Dmen and Franson is mainly a PP specialist and plays an occasional shift (O-zone FO)

The other 2 forwards could easily do a substitute forward shift on any line

And it still doesn't make sense. Teams don't like dressing 7 defensemen. Hell, Bylsma hates carrying 8 defensemen, so I cannot imagine dressing 7 would be in his plans. Stop overthinking these things. They will scratch Colaiacovo when Bogosian returns - unless Bylsma does something dumb like sitting Pysyk for a game.
