I think Bowman is likely to get a spot as the Canes thought highly enough of him to not put him on Waivers. Will be surprised if he isn't on the 3rd or 4th line to start the season.

Having Sluty and Semin on the same line is going to be tremendous for everyone involved.

I could imagine the look on Eric's face. He finally develops some chemistry with a winger other than Erik Cole (in Tlusty) and his GM finally goes out and gets some true top 6 talent in Semin and J. Staal.....and he still ends up with LaRose and Stewart on his line.

Give it time. LaRose will find his way beside Eric sometime soon. There's a magnetic attraction there.

Hell, LaRose could be traded and he'll still somehow start a game on Eric's wing.

I have little doubt that LaRose will end up on Staal's line at some point in the season. Whether it's due to injury, or to shake things up if the team is struggling, or because EStaal is struggling.....I'd be surprised if he doesn't spend any time there.

Prolly never happen, but I really think something like this could be interesting:

Semin//Eric//Tlusty
Jokinen//Jordan//LaRose
Bowman//Welsh//Skinner
Nodl//Brent//Dwyer
Stewart

Gleason//Pitkänen
McBain//Faulk
Harrison//Corvo

PP 1
-----

Semin//Eric//Jordan

McBain//Pitkänen

PP 2
-----

Tlusty//Jokinen//Skinner

Faulk//Corvo

PK 1
-----

Jordan//LaRose

Gleason//Faulk

PK 2
-----

Eric//Semin

Harrison//Pitkänen

Would spread out the talent pretty well, and we'll see where Ruutu fits in when he gets back. Three legitamate scoring lines and a fairly good defensive 4th line that can also chip in on occasion.

Tlusty - E Staal - Semin
Skinner - J Staal - Dalpe
Larose - Jokinen - Dwyer
Nodl - Brent - Stewart

Gleason/ McBain
Pitkanen/Faulk
Corvo/Harrison

I'd like to see Dalpe get then nod but it could be Bowman.

Per an interview with Capt. Kirk this afternoon on 99.9, He does not foresee the Staal's on the same line and would like to have a larger role for the fourth line and more scoring on the 3rd line.

Lazily copying BBA's lines from the other thread, because it seems almost entirely locked in already:

Tlusty-Staal-Semin
Skinner-JStaal - OPEN / LaRose
Bowman - Jokinen - Dwyer/LaRose
Nodl-Brent-LaRose/Dwyer
Stewart

- We know Eric will be the #1C and that he will play with Tlusty rather than Skinner. So that's 4 places locked in.

- Based on playing style and contract, Semin seems a sure bet for that #1RW spot.

- We flat-out don't have a better option than Jokinen at 3C. Brent is locked in at 4C.

- The bottom 6 wingers could shuffle, but the above is a safe bet. Chad will get 2RW or 3RW status unless a rookie tears it out of his cold dead hands.

- Muller seems committed to not stashing a guy like Bowman behind a guy like Nodl based on veteran status. Nodl is better off getting PK minutes than skating around idly at ES.

- Stewart has done nothing to show he isn't completely expendable.

So the only real open issue is whether a rookie steps up and takes that open RW spot, or if it goes to LaRose and everyone fills in behind him.

I'm less sure about the D, but this is what I'd like to see for starters:

Pitkanen/Faulk
Gleason/McBain
Harrison/Corvo

- Pitkanen/Faulk are two guys who aren't quite dominant, but they don't have major weaknesses either. Seeing as we still have no true #1 stud, this pairing is our best bet for taking care of business in all zones and both sides of the ice.

- Gleason/McBain could be a disaster, but it could also be a growing year for both of them. Obviously the idea here is a balance of talent.

- Harrison and Corvo are two guys who don't need to be the ice more than about 13 minutes a game. In limited, safe minutes they can both be reasonably effective.

Each pairing has a balance of O and D, and each has a RHS paired with an LHS, and each has at least one older player on the ice.

I think Brett Sutter will spend a significant amount of time in the bottom 6 of the Canes this year. Also given Boychuk's impressive AHL stats I think he deserves ice-time with the Canes too.

I know people are married to the idea of Jordan and Skinner, and now that Ruutu is gone, that may have to be the situation, but I still hate the idea of Skinner being on the ice for dzone draws against the other teams top lines every game.

A Skinner-Jussi-??? 3rd line might not be so bad. Sucks for Jstaal if he draws the Larose/Bowman type wingers, but in terms of who you want on the ice in what situations, I think it'd match up a little better.

What was the point of trading Brandon Sutter+ for J. Staal if we are just going to give him Sutter's former linemates, minutes and defensive responsibilities?

Not to mention that one of the reasons Staal wanted out of Pittsburgh was because of his lack of an offensive role there. So we put him in the same role here and give him even worse linemates, all because precious little Jeff Skinner might actually have to play some defense?

Not going to happen.

I'll try Faulk- McBain at the point or Faulk- E. Staal. Faulk/ McBain- Corvo sounds like a disaster.

That's a shortsighted way of thinking. We HAVE to play Staal with Skinner in year one of a 10 year deal regardless of injuries, because otherwise why not just keep Brandon Sutter? I'm not saying they won't. The options are limited. Maybe Skinner will be competent in the dzone this year?

But I'm looking through the 3rd line suggestions:

Boychuk/ Bowman- Dalpe- Larose
Bowman-Jokinen-Larose
Larose - Jokinen - Dwyer
Bowman Welsh LaRose
Boychuk-Dalpe-LaRose

The nice thing about these lines, is they all seem like they'll struggle in all three zones. You add Jeff Skinner to any of them, and it's at least an offensive threat. You add Jordan Staal to any of them, and it's a fairly solid defensive line.
