Vrbata wont gardener a 1st.

Id think a 2nd and 4th.

Id try packaging up all of our opicks after our 1st and get a another first. Im over drafting depth and projects. Need some impact players.

Assume we get a 2nd and 4th for Vrb and the Jackets 2nd.

Offer all our picks besides our 1st for another 1st.
More darts are better than less at our stage imo

Depends upon the position of that other 1st and the 2nd rounders. Sometimes frequency can be better than a few spots up the ladder.

Also, a lot of the return will come down the GM's ability negotiate it... So I agree, projecting a more 'conservative' return seems the way to go.

Not with our organization. A 4th rounder basically has no chance to develop under our regime. Hell a 1st drafted to the Canucks gets de-developed to a 3rd 4th rounder with us.

what about a 5th rounder then? We seem to develop those into NHL talent

Bieksa
Hutton
Corrado
Forsling looks good
Polasek / Andersson played pro
M.Brown

I want more tickets to the draft lottery. Maybe we just need to shift our 5th round talent analysis up a few rounds :naughty:

With the rumors of Florida seeking a top 6 scoring winger and their recent rise in the standings (8 game win streak, 1st in division), I definitely think there is a good chance of the yearly Vancouver/Florida trade. If Vrbata can get into a bit of a scoring streak we might even be able to get their 1st for him. But considering Benning's past deals, I think we'd be lucky to get a 2nd+decent prospect/young player.

There are a number of contenders that need scoring right now. Florida, LA, St. Louis, Minnesota, Detroit, NJ could all use a scoring winger. If there is a lot of demand, the price goes up.

We need a right side defenseman with offensive ability...basically we need to draft our own Barrie, Klingberg, Faulk, etc. How do you do that? load up on picks and target these types and hope they turn out. If we are dealing Hamhuis and Vrbata I want picks, not more of other teams scraps. There is no excuse for this organization to not have 10+ picks every draft if they actually want to rebuild properly.

The whole right side other than Tanev is a huge question mark. You can't just load up on right-side offensive guys in the draft and wait 5 years for them to develop. Get a good young guy that can help now, and then when some of those draft picks are ready to make the jump you can figure it out then. I agree with loading up on picks as well but the blueline has to be addressed as well.

I sure hope things heat up by the deadline. Everyone in the NHL is saying there is gridlock in trade talks.

We're headed for another lockout. Good thing it's still years away.

By then you'll have guys like Lucic making $9 million a season.

Ian Macintyre said post game, Vrbata might not even be able to bring back a 2nd and that Hamhuis might not be ready by the deadline.

The trade deadline is gonna suck for us.

Trade Edler for Drouin+Carle

Trade Tanev+McCann for Johansen+Prout

Trade Higgins+Bartkowski for Staal+3rd

Trade Dorsett for Columbus' 4th

Trade a Vey+Weber for Polak

Trade Hamhuis for Hickey+1st+3rd in 2017

Trade Vrbata for either Petry or Gilbert+Juulsen

Try and find a place for Miller, since this team will be tanking further next year.

Sedin-Sedin-Hansen
Drouin-Johansen-Sutter
Baertschi-Horvat-Virtanen
Kenins-Cracknell-Prust
Gaunce, Greiner, Shinkaruk

Staal-Petry/Gilbert
Carle-Polak
Hutton-Prout
Hickey, Pedan, Biega

Miller?
Markstrom

Probably not much better short term (in fact that defense offsets what ever benefit the improvements to the forward corps recieve), but there is a lot of room to grow, and there is some talent in the roster enough phase the Sedins out, rather then scrambling for replacements when their contracts end.

We also have 3 more picks in the first four rounds, us a total of two firsts (Van, NYI), two seconds(Van, Columbus (Torts)), a third (NYR) and two fourths (Van, Columbus).

Bolded are either trades that were suggested by the other sides fan base, or were approved by multiple fans of said fan base.

Jeez it's like the entire NHL suddenly decided to become really boring. Yeah the product has been going downhill for a while but at least we had trades to look forward to. There are about 6 teams right now that are fun to watch, out of 30, and no real trades, at all.

Our defense is barely an AHL defense, losing both steady guys in Tanev and Edler would take years to rebuild.

Benning on Drouin & Johansen, "I've talked to both GM's. From our view, we don't have the prospect depth those teams are looking for."

Surprised he didn't just come out and say "Our prospects just aren't good enough to get these types of players".
