Let's start the thread with a bang. Dolan on the radio at 5PM. Probably going to be mostly about the Knicks, but La Greca will make sure he talks about the Rangers.

Do you play him with Barkov or Trochek?
probably Trochek, gives them two “first lines”.

Seriously though the Panthers top-6 with Panarin would be f***ing disgusting

Huberdeau-Barkov-Dadonov
Hoffman-Trochek-Panarin

Not to mention Borgstrom being a stud.
If they can’t make noise with that group of players, they never will.

Bobrovsky will go a long way to letting that team be where they should be

Maybe it's me, but I don't find that corp impressive at all.

Definitely not, but it's a start. I'd still rather them do something around Skjei+Pionk for Trouba. Give Winnipeg a RHD behind Buff and a top 4 LHD (added to Morrisey). Open up a spot for Hajek/Rykov/Lindgren next season. Could possibly both be in and the fail safes are Smith or Claesson (combos in any order):

Staal-DeAngelo
Hajek-Shattenkirk
Rykov-Trouba
Smith/Claesson

Not going to say this defense is much better, but there is balance between youth and vets. We move out a LHD for some of the younger options coming up. Get a legit top 4 RHD on the team with term and in his prime. You look for beyond the SSS contracts expiring and you will have identified if the young LHD are keepers or trade bait, as well as established your right side with prime players.

I kept Staal with TDA because we've seen Tony be able to bail him out of bad situations and even with Trouba, TDA is the best puck mover here. Hajek and Shatty has been a pair so far. Rykov and Trouba are the new guys and could mesh well together and be a pair for a long time.

Their real issue has been goaltending for like 3 years... Any real goalie will get them where they need to be. Bob is legit, and playing behind a legit defense like that he'll be the stud he is supposed to be

Still not going anywhere with that.

OK then smarty... What's the solution? $12M for EK? Gardiner for $8M on the top pairing?

There is no magic trade that suddenly bolsters this defense from bad to amazing in one fell swoop.

You know, if we didn't have Kreider, Shattenkirk, Smith and Staal, we'd have no problem signing Panarin and EK.

They’ll find a way to muck it up. God knows they always found a way to screw up a rebuild when I lived there.

you could totally move Smith for an equal-ish 'bad' contract.

there's tons of $3M-4.5M scrubs itl

And they can pay him more, and will bring his buddy to play goal, and have Ekblad and Yandle to feed him the puck.

Why do people think the Rangers have a chance against that? Brighton Beach ain't that great.

Where we going? This D group is marginally better than this years at best.

Am I the only one who finds Trouba incredibly overrated? Add in the fact that he can't stay healthy, remind me why we should be willing to pay him the massive deal he wants?

Rykov - Trouba
Hajek - DeAngelo
Staal - Claesson
Add Lindgren in the mix but It'll most likely be Pionk on the right, hopefully there's some form of growth. Keane could be a darkhorse. A guy like Brodie could be available but he's more than likely not a long term option

I've brought it up before but Stralman on a short term deal would be a nice, stabalizing plug.. Until we can find a long term solution, whether that's having Lundkvist develop or signing a player like Fox.
