He's overpaid for sure, but like most things in life, the answer is 'it depends'. What else is being sent back

Do you guys think we give Beleskey a shot when his contract expires, on a much cheaper deal? I feel the only reason he hasn't been playing NHL hockey is because of his contract. I really liked him in preseason.

His contract isn't up until 2020. I don't think there's any chance that we re-sign him after that. His cap hit isn't really an issue. We are saving 1.025 mil by having him in the AHL, but most of that is used up by his replacement (Brickley, who makes 650k). It could be that they are pinching pennies so that we have as much room as possible to take on salary at the deadline. We may see Beleskey play more after the deadline.
