Hated that trade. Really wanted to see Graves get a chance.

Read earlier on Twitter they expect him to stay with the Avs for the remainder of the season. He played 10 games so he would have to clear if he was sent back.

Yeah me too. Who is Staal, Smith, Shatty and McQuaid holding back? If we didn’t have Staal and Smith our left side on defense this year would probably be:
Brady Skjei
Will Butcher
Ryan Graves

Lawrence Pilot? It’s the same on the right side.

So many of the top Ds in the NHL aren’t top 5 picks. Go through a number of guys like that, really give them an honest shot, and all of a sudden something works out.

I thought this was a major issue going into this season. But now it seems like we will go forward next season too like it’s no issue at all. Let these guys play out their contracts, dream about one of them boosting their value, or just let it pass.

Retain 50% on Shatty and make something happen now. Of course someone would give up something to get him at 50%. Gorton is just afraid to look bad. Trade Smith and take back a contract up front. We have 12 spots up front but only 3 at LD... Of course that also can get done. Keep Staal around because he would cost the most to get rid off.

Then go full frontal to find guys who might be ready to play now. Go really hard after the next Will Butcher. Trade a 2nd round pick or a prospect or two or whatever it takes to get someone who is lost in a numbers game somewhere. And so forth. I don’t for a second doubt that if we went with that approach we actually could have a pretty interesting blueline in a few years. Hajak should be ready for some games next season.

I was reading on the Av's forum the other day that they were hoping he would be one sitting out...so it appears not all Av fans are happy either...funny how that goes...LOL

Why is it not worthwhile? He has certainly steadied Skeji quite a bit.
Plus you can't have all kids on a blueline . I don't think his physical presence has hurt us one bit either...in fact I do believe it has helped the team as a whole . For this season he was a good fit for this club . Next season ? Who knows...depends on what the battlefront looks like and who can step up a notch . Rangers will make the right decision .

I said it before, I'd go all-in for a player like Kakko if we dont hit the lotto.

We don't need anymore quantity.
Every team would be all in on Kakko.

He’s the second best player in this draft and the team that has that pick isn’t going to move it.

There is no fast tracking this process

Even with a Hughes pick in this draft, we have to expect Chytil to more than double his production in the next two years. I find that doubtful. We have to expect Lias to learn to become the impact player we had been hoping for. We have to expect Kravstov to be an impact player immediately

These are all pie in the sky expectations

Playoffs.....maybe in 22-23
in 33 games Lias has 6 goals and is minus 20. IMO he has been brutal. His overall play is a disappointment. I don't think he is close at all let alone becoming an impact player. I know he is young but He has taken a huge step back. I doubt he makes the team next year. We need to draft better than this.

JFK doesn't appear to be playing today.

In fact, the only notable guys they have playing today are Vaakanainen, Senyshyn, and Donato.

Katchouk, Raddysh and Foote are all playing for Syracse.
Donato, Senyshyn, Katchouk, and Raddysh are all pretty much available. Vaak/Foote very likely aren’t

I don’t think it’s fair to judge him yet because Hartford is one of the worst teams in the league. Also, our drafting is looking pretty damn good right now.

Doesn't say much for our draft choices in Hartford. Plus I have seen 5 games this year in person and not impressed. Lias doesn't do anything particularly well.

Well this rebuild isn't going very far if Lias is a bust and we whiff again this year.

People can point to Chytil all they want but we don't have a lot of room for error.

What was the last team to win the cup with the goalie having the highest AAV?

$8.5M (13% of cap at signing ) for a goalie is not feasible in the cap era... Unless he is vintage Lundqvist, 90+% of the time.

Sign Georgiev long term
Trade Shestyorkin

Shestyorkin has to come over and win the spot from Georgiev, he is playing in an inferior league that has Nigel Dawes as a top player. I like that we have two guys who could push each other.

I knew they wouldn't do it but I wanted them to move Hank and keep Talbot. The haul we would have gotten would have us contending now.

continuing to repeat this utter bull doesn't make it true. look back at our teams that made the final 4 3 out of 4 years and the $$ we were spending for rick nash to be a pk specialist and the $$ we were spending on girardi and staal, etc. if you think what separated us from winning was lundqvist making $8.5 mil vs $6 mil you couldn't possibly be more wrong.

if you argument is that you can't afford to spend 13% of the cap on a goalie while ALSO wasting countless cap space on crappy under-achieving players in front of him then you'd be correct

It just compounds the issue but it can be argued the team was built around him.

Our top offensive players were especially bad/invisible in the playoffs. ( Minus Brass and Zibs )
