If the top-3 (Ovechkin, Laine, Malkin) continue the rest of the games with their calendar year 2018 pace, Laine & Ovechkin tie it with 50 goals and Malkin comes 3rd with 48. That would assume 0.77G/GP for Laine, 0.62 for Ovechkin and 0.81 for Malkin. Ovechkin must be the clear favourite at this point - he just needs to play at 50g pace, while Laine and Malkin 2018 form is 63 & 66g / 82 games. Tough to keep that up, but not impossible for a little over 10 games.

The cutoff date of 1.1.2018 is completely random, I just picked it to have recency bias but also large enough sample size to not get completely fooled by hot streaks.

Capitals play the Islanders again tonight. Have a feeling Ovi opens up a lead with a couple goals. Doubt they hold him off the score sheet in back to backs.

Penguins don’t play until next Tuesday and again Wednesday against the Islanders and Canadiens. Penguins will probably feast on them.

And vaults him pass Hawerchuk with 86 goals.
