I assume the reason they keep calling themselves "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" is for branding purposes.

Pleasantly surprised to see Eurythmics get the nod for induction.

Happy to see Priest get inducted. Hopefully, Iron Maiden is right behind.

Absolutely ecstatic Duran Duran are getting inducted although not surprised since they had them induct Roxy Music in 2019.
Former guitarist Andy Taylor confirmed he will at the ceremony and Simon Le Bon believes former guitarist Warren Cuccurullo will be there as well.

But the the person walked back on that.

After being given no graceful way out because the institution insisted on moving forward.

If someone says “Please remove my name from the ballot,” remove their name from the ballot. Refusing to do so is just straight up disrespectful and there’s no way to interpret it in this instance other than trying to generate interest in the inductions.

She may have been kidding, but Parton said she's well on her way to embracing rock, and that even before her Rock Hall nomination, she'd wanted to do a rock album. She even teased a song called "Rock of Ages," in which she'd "recruit all the great old rock 'n' rollers" to help her out.

"I've always wanted to do the song 'Satisfaction.' That's one of my husband's favorite songs. And I may have to drag Mick's guys up there to help me sing it," she told Billboard. "I'm hoping we're both around long enough when I get to doing this record that he'll come sing with me, and I may have to use The Rolling Stones to play behind me."

Again, she did the most graceful thing possible under the circumstances. She still very clearly asked not to be placed on the ballot and they put her on it anyway and essentially forced the award on her.

"I was trying to be nice and good about not trying to take something away from somebody that had truly earned it"

This is Dolly Parton, she's not going to make a big stink, but it's quite obvious that they ignored her request in order to self-promote and take advantage of her celebrity.

They didn’t ignore her request. She was too late when she made her request to be taken off. The ballots had already gone out to the members and voting had started. What was the Hall supposed to do? Recall all the ballots? Ignore those that had already been cast? Can you imagine the outrage that would have generated? Especially when a third of the US is already skeptical of voting—in elections that truly mater, unlike the RARHOF.

Outrage from who? She very clearly stated "I don't want to be part of this" and people are going to be outraged about the Hall saying "OK, we won't make you do this if you don't want it"?

It would have been incredibly easy to just disregard her as a candidate -- just don't count those votes. Or, to contact Parton voters asking them for a corrected ballot. Neither option is difficult and both are more legitimate than moving ahead with someone who has publicly asked to be removed from the ballot. The only reason to take the 3rd option is self-interest.

I just look past the "rock & roll" of the title and assume it's essentially the "popular music" hall of fame.

Beyond that, the credentials are weird and silly but it still irks me to read "(fill in the blank) is a disco/rap/country artist so they shouldn't be in."
