I mean if you're going to nominate Eminem then you have to induct him. He's one of the top-10 album sellers of all time, while being reasonably respected within his genre.

But I don't pretend to understand this HOF, and find their whole operation to be pretty ridiculous tbh.

Beck -- Automatic. No real point having an opinion here. He's such an industry darling he's in without there needing to be a vote.

Pat Benatar -- No. Come on.

Kate Bush -- No. Probably belongs in the Brit music hall of fame, but she clearly didn't cross over to the U.S. given her paltry success here.

DEVO -- No. They're a lot like Beck in that the industry loves them, but unlike Beck, they never really sold many records.

Duran Duran -- Yes. About as big of a band there was in the 80s.

Eminem -- Yes. Would make it pretty funny when he gets in to make 20% of the rap acts in the Hall of Fame being white.

Eurythmics -- Yes. Cool new sound. Had a decent run of hits and are considered influential. I like them.

Judas Priest -- No. We need more metal in the Hall, but they aren't quite there. Put Slayer in.

Fela Kuti -- No. Never heard of him. Pulled up his biggest hits, and have never heard a one of them. Can't be in a Hall of Fame if your biggest hit doesn't even have 3 million views on Youtube.

MC5 -- No. Here we are with the Boomers on the committee still trying to clog the Hall up with every band to ever put out a record in the 60s.

New York Dolls -- No. I get they may have been a huge influence and all, but if your album sales are best described in terms of number of dozens, you're not in.

Dolly Parton -- No. I love Dolly. She's a national treasure. But she isn't rock and roll or even pop. That said, invite her to the induction ceremony. She's awesome.

Rage Against The Machine -- Yes. They'd also be the highlight of the induction. They didn't have the longest run, but what they did was awesome and still resonates. The kids still love them.

Lionel Richie -- No. He can go apply at the boring music hall of fame.

Carly Simon -- No. Had one or two hits almost 50 years ago. Meh.

A Tribe Called Quest -- Yes. Time to start getting more rap acts in, and they were huge on the influence and legacy side of things.

Dionne Warwick -- No. This ain't the telephone psychic hall of fame.

I think Eminem should be in, but I'd say this thread is as good as any to declare with 100% certitude that Eminem might just be the worst musical act when considering critical acclaim-quality ratio. Good lord is his stuff bad.

Pretty much agree, but I would say yes on Judas Priest. 50M+ albums sold, pioneers of NWOBHM, set the style for metal, one of the best voices in all of rock, broke the sexuality barrier in metal.... I won't argue that they didn't make a lot of crap, but they could fill a greatest hits better than many already in the HOF.

Suddenly the biggest snub iron maiden is not even good enough to get nominated.
I am not a huge Metal fan, but I am a product of the 80’s, and I agree both JP and IM should be in. However, you do not want them both on the same ballot. They will split the vote, and neither will get in. The voters get five votes, and only the top six go in. I suspect that if JP is not voted in this time, they are inducted via one of the direct methods.

How many out of 16 nominees are actual "rock'n'roll"? Six?

The fact that Judas Priest is not there (and Maiden, and Motorhead, and Dio, and Rainbow, and Scorpions, and solo Ozzy, etc.) is all you need to know about it. RnRHoF is a desecration of the word "rock'n'roll." It has just as much to do with rock'n'roll as Hard Rock Cafe -- with hard rock and spectacled cobra -- with spectacles.

Terrible take. Without Priest, there is no Slayer. The fact that Metallica got in the hall before Priest is ridiculous as well. Only Sabbath and Maiden have the same credentials and influence levels as Priest among metal bands.

I'd put Motorhead up there, even more than Maiden.

Metallica got in before Judas Priest because Metallica scores higher in every metric the HoF cares about: influence, fame, record sales, etc.

the rock n roll hof is basically just another over glorified televised american tv show with an interesting after party. no different than the grammys or the billboard awards.

unfortunately the harsh reality is that maiden, lemmy, scorps, dio , etc will always be looked down upon by those in charge of those shows. the only way they would have been shown any respect is they somehow crossed over to the mainstream pop charts.

never say never though. there still might be a small window opening for maiden and priest. however, the window is gradually reaching shutdown.
