Rough third for Risto. Armia should have had an assist, but Cat couldn't finish.

Not a super memorable game. I barely remember the second period...and I only had two beers. The Adam to McNabb play was pretty, and Cat had a couple good chances. Not a lot to write home about with this one. At least they grabbed a point?

(Count me in as a member of the Freddy Roy bandwagon.)

2/21 - Rampage win sixth straight, top Amerks:
The San Antonio Rampage (23-21-3-5) won their sixth in a row as they topped the Rochester Americans (26-18-3-4) in a shootout 3-2 Friday night inside Blue Cross Arena. With the win, the Rampage have points in 16 of their last 17 games.

Quinton Howden scored his eighth goal and third shorthanded goal of the year to open the scoring for the Rampage, and Joey Crabb added the remaining regulation tally to send the game into extra sessions. Crabb earned the Second Star of the Game for his efforts. Bobby Butler and Vincent Trocheck converted in the skills competition to put it away for the Rampage.

Michael Houser shined, stopping 23-of-25 in regulation, and 4-of-5 in the shootout.

With his fourth goal in his last three games, Phil Varone made it 1-0 for the Amerks in the first period. Picking up a feed from Luke Adam down low, Varone tipped it just over Houser’s blocker 3:38 into the opening frame.

Not a thrilling game but a solid two points. Risto with a couple points. Ziggy had a nice goal. Few iffy penalties. Eh.

2/22 - Amerks nip Bulldogs with 3-2 win:
Mike Zigomanis scored the eventual game-winning goal early in the third period as the Rochester Americans closed out a four-game homestand with a 3-2 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs Saturday night at The Blue Cross Arena. The win boosts Rochester to 27-18-3-4 on the season and marks the 12th win in the last 16 games for the Amerks, who also finished the weekend with points in four straight.

The goal was the first in nearly two months for the Amerks veteran forward, who was playing in just his sixth game following a 17-game absence due to an upper-body injury. The veteran’s last tally came back on Dec. 18 in a 2-1 over his former Toronto Marlies on home ice.

Frederick Roy and Luke Adam rounded out the scoring for the Amerks, and rookie defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen finished with two assists. After Matt Hackett was a late scratch in net, Nathan Lieuwen started for the fourth consecutive night and earned his eighth win in 10 starts with 27 saves for Rochester, which improved to 4-0-0-1 over its last five games at home.

Gabriel Dumont scored both of Hamilton’s goals on the power-play, and Robert Mayer turned aside 24 of 27 shots he faced.

I love that the Amerks are winning. That cutlure is important, particularly withthe big club crapping the bed so bad.

The addition of Risto and Pysyk to McNabb and Ruhweidel makes for a strong defense.

Are they winning in spite of Cassidy or is it because he finally has a roster worth working with?

Larsson has really turned it up. His offensive game is coming around nicely. Looks like sending him down was the right choice.

Next year will be huge for The Johan and whether he can translate the AHL production to the NHL level.

I don't expect him to be a PPG guy in the NHL. But, he has to produce more than he did this year.

Agreed. Girgs seems like a possible exception to this, and I wonder if it's because of his redic work ethic?

I think it'd be fine for him too, ideally. It would have probably allowed his offensive game to catch up a bit from the USHL.

Thing is though, it's good to reward a guy who works so incredibly hard too, and it's clear that coaching and management think he is pretty much the only prospect in his group capable of handling the NHL right now.

Would have been cool if one or a couple of AHLers were involved in the Buffalo-St. Louis trade last night. All the player or players would have had to do was to walk to the other dressing room as the Amerks were playing the St. Louis AHL team, the Chicago Wolves. (Weird seeing/typing St. Louis AHL team - Chicago Wolves. You think the Wolves would be with the Chicago Blackhawks. Yeah I know they used to be then the owners of the Hawks/Wolves had a falling out. The Chicago AHL team is the Rockford Ice Hogs who the Amerks will playing at on Tuesday in the finale of this four-game roadie.)

Next Amerks Game - at Milwaukee Admirals - Sunday, March 2 - 4:00 pm ET. Nashville sent Pekka Rinne to Milwaukee on a two game rehab stint earlier this week and Sundays game vs the Amerks should be his second game in net for the Admirals. Pekka didn't have to do much in his first game as Milwaukee destroyed Iowa 9-1 last night. Rinne stopped 16 of 17 shots thrown his way in his first game action since October and his first game with the Admirals since April 23, 2008. It was his 82nd all-time win as an Admiral. http://www.milwaukeeadmirals.com/home/news/2014/02/0228iwa.html

Tweets - Amerks at Admirals - Overtime.

LaxSabre - GAME BACK ON! - Go Amerks!
LaxSabre - UGH! Rinne gets caught behind net, puck comes out in front and Adam nails the post on a wide open net. Admirals come back down and Roussel scores his second of the game to give the Admirals a 2-1 overtime win. Amerks suffer their second straight loss on the road trip of this four-game road trip after winning against Iowa on Thursday. The road trip finale is Tuesday in Rockford. Tough loss for the Amerks especially for Lieuwen who made 26 saves on the afternoon. Rinne goes 2-0 on his two-game rehab stint - he should be joining Nashville later this week. Although for fantasy purposes, I hope he takes the week off or is rusty as I'm playing him in a couple of leagues this coming week and I'm in a battle for a playoff spot in each league. LOL!

‏@AmerksHockey - Milwaukee wins it in overtime. Charles-Olivier Roussel scores his second of the game to give the Admirals a 2-1 OT win over the #Amerks.
‏@RSandersonWHTK - #Amerks lose in OT. Charles-Olivier Roussel beats Lieuwen with a backhander. 2-1 F/OT
@mkeadmirals - Admirals Win!!!!!!! Roussel with a beautiful backhand to give the Admirals a 2-1 victory in OT. That was Roussels second goal of the night.
‏@mkeadmirals - U.S. Bank Three Stars Of The Game: 1-Roussel. 2-Rinne. 3-Lieuwen.

Well this is the 1000th post in this thread - guess we can close it up and start another one which will probably last the rest of the season. Not a good way to close it up with a overtime loss like that. Oh well! Go Amerks!
