Flyer from 81-83, Hartford in 82-83.... and a lot of Junior teams, NCAA as well. Banned due to one too many high speed collisions with the boards, goal posts.... I tried them at the time in a Beer League and found out first hand just how slick they were when you hit the ice with any speed at all. Just crazy.... they were also kinda hot... though they were convenient. No messing around with socks & hockey pants.

Yea the birdcage and the jersey throws it off. Mike Richter before adopting his iconic mask also used a birdcage and it looked odd

same with Kirk McLean. Pair it with the Devils jersey and it's...who is this guy?

Slightly different here but feel it fits:

Bure wearing 96 in the Canucks whale uniform. He only wore it for a few months into the season, if that, before going back to 10; it was brief enough that most articles regarding his switch to 10 as occurring before the season began, which may be the case, but this is proof that he at least appeared in a game wearing 96, though whether that was simply preseason or not I can't confirm.

Here's a bit of story to that, the Game One patch tells us he switched to #10 by the start of the season, taking Brian Bellows preseason jersey

And in case no-one's aware, I'm a bit of a Gelinas fan, so I've picked up a few pictures over time.. here's a screenshot from his home tour, below is a 96 Oiler jersey despite him leaving the team in 1993. No idea why he crested one for himself, maybe it was a gift

Marty McSorely during his 46-game return to Edmonton.

Carl Brewer was a 1st team All Star in 1965, but when he couldn't agree on a contract, he left the Maple Leafs to play for the Canadian National Team. He returned to the NHL in 1969-70 with the Red Wings then played parts of two years with the St. Louis Blues. He retired in 1972, then came back after sitting out a year to play in the WHA for the 73-74 campaign. In 1979-80 - at the age of 41 - he returned to the Maple Leaf blueline before retiring, once again, in 1980. He had played his first game with the Leafs in 1959 and his last game with them in 1980.

Not quite the same as the others in this thread, but here’s an older Sakic, Forsberg, and Foote rocking the Nordiques jerseys in the 2002 pre-season game in Quebec City between the Avs and Canadiens:

and here’s Patrick Roy playing against the Avalanche for the only time in his career (November 25, 1995), about a week before he was traded to Colorado. Always find it odd to see him wearing the opposing team’s jersey in a game against Colorado.

Kopitar wore the Kings' old purple thirds during their last season, his rookie year, but I can't find any pictures of him actually in it.
