wonder how he`ll feel if he hits the UFA market and is offered a deal that`s humbling in comparison to what he`s made in his career?

Looking at his numbers the past few years I can’t imag him making nearly as much as he has. For his production I would think $3-4M and with his age and health issues 1-3 years.

I’m sure he and his agents are well aware of his value at this point in his career or at least I’d hope they are

On one hand he can probably still score around 20 goals, but he’s only good for like 5 assists. He’s not good at making plays and using his teammates and his one offensive weapon, his shot, is diminishing.

AS long as the Bruins don't panic and give him more than two seasons.

They seem hell bent on getting a big time RW even though they have Heinen on the roster who I feel can play top 6 minutes. I'm guessing they feel he can't?
Either that or they want to roll a stacked lineup up front while having some of these kids on ELCs

They also have Bjork who played RW at Notre Dame and started last season at that position on the first line. Barring a signing, I see him as the prime candate to start the season.

Donato meant. Carlo and McAvoy as well. They need to be careful.
A lot can happen over the course of 12 months. I fully expect a big contract to be dealt. Also, if you have a chance to load up this year and win the cup, take it and solve cap issues later. People bash the Hawks, but it worked perfectly for them with their three Stanley Cup victories. People on this site seem to be too concerned with how much cap space we'll have in 2025.

Loading up is fine, with the right players. Not sure Nash moves the needle all that much.

I don't think he re-signs here. Unless DS blows him away with an offer I'd bet he made his mind up as soon as news came out that he would be 2nd best to Kovy. I know I wouldn't want to be the last kid picked.

What if the Bruins offered Nash some 2 year deal because he was their first choice, and said if he signs it then they are out of the Kovy hunt...but the Nash camp said they are interested in longer term/more money and not ready to sign. So Sweeney stays in the Kovy sweepstakes (probably offering 2 years), Kovy signs with LA, now they circle back to (sort of) where they were? Nash has a little more leverage, but his nose is not bent out of shape, and we'll see if Sweeney can pull the rabbit out with a 2 year deal.

Of course if it went down such that the Bruins refused to discuss anything concrete with Nash before Kovy was off the board, then I could see some resentment. Just can't see Sweeney operating like that with somebody already in the organization (as opposed to a 'foreign' UFA). But that (and everything else I've written) is of course pure speculation.

not sure why they don't like heinen on the RW, but cassidy mentioned that at one point later in the season.
i personally think he can play C, which has already been well-documented here. i don't see them going more
than 2 years on nash - assume that was their offer to him already. maybe $9M total? i'm ok with that,
certainly not more term. lots of balls in the air, it seems all of the UFA are looking elsewhere at least to start.

Rick Nash is probably turned off by Bruins 1st choice pursuit of Kovalchuk.

I doubt will be back

Perhaps I'm overthinking but rather curious that someone as bright (and careful) as Sweeney would publicly acknowledge his preference for IK over RN, when losing out on IK was a distinct possibility.

He would have kept his options open.

Trust Nash takes the hint and moves along. Resigning a declining big fish & hoping for the best sounds like latter day Sinden to me. No thank you.

Didn’t Sweeney indicate Nash’s agent said Rick isn’t sure if he’s going to play again- has made enough money and is worried about the concussions he has had and the stories coming out can’t help.

It would not surprise me if he packs it in. Really wouldn’t blame him.

Sweeney seems to know more than he’s publicly letting on

I’m surprised more players don’t do this. Especially now knowing what we all know. I know I’d be walking away. He’s made more money than he’ll ever need. Go enjoy life after hockey. Crosby imo should start seriously looking at this idea as well

Sweeney was all in on Rick Nash and then he’s mentioning Kovalchuk and I’m thinking ‘that is pretty weird’

Well it all makes sense now - doesn’t mean Nash is done but the end is coming in 2-3 years likely best scenario and who knows if he’s had some issues since the season ended 50 days ago

Not sure how you have this position with Nash but don’t see Backes in the same light? Backes is slow enough now he’s caught with his head down at times, unlike Nash. I’m fine if either or both decide on their own health over playing more, but personally I’d be way more concerned about Bsckes if he came back.
