I don't understand how you find DP to be the aggressor vs Johnson, what zone was it in again? Johnson came all the way down and Rick came up 10 feet from his crease, not the other way around.

You really need to step away from this thread. You're letting this discussion get to you way too much.

OP: This fight comes off strange. It seems only one person in the fight was serious, the other thought they'd just talk and wrestle.

It was three years ago, and because of what happened I got to witness a terrific game live in the following days.

I hate having to defend DiPietro, but this "fight" always pissed me off. Johnson is a cheap piece of garbage if you look closely. He's not even punching with his fist, he's hacking with his forarm (and pad). That's why Ricks face broke.

The jagoff tried pulling the same cheap garbage against Michael Haley in the brawl game of 2011.

A goalie pad is soft all the way up the forearm. It would hinder rather then help you if you were trying to increase damage.

I always found it strange how casual DiPietro was in that fight. It's almost like he didn't really mean business when he decided to engage. Not a very safe way to go about bare-knuckle brawling.

Terrific? Is that a joke? That was one of the most embarrassing moments for the NHL in recent history. Both teams get blame, by the way. It just makes me sad that someone thought that was terrific in any way. :shakehead

Johnson didn't exactly give him a chance, either. As soon as he got his glove and pad off Johnson grabbed him and had the leverage advantage. Then, BOOM, questionable punch and he's out.

well, you have to understand that we're talking the Isles here. that game was one of the few relevant moments for the franchise in almost three decades. pretty sad now that I think about it...

It wasn't just a brawl fest, the Islanders laid a beat down on the Pens on the scoreboard as well. Everyone in the league loved watching the Pens get the snot kicked out of them.

Exactly, Johnson came at it like a guy who was pissed off and ready to beat someone up.

I'd have a problem if they all started off in close quarters, and someone got grabbed and suckered. But Dipietro had all the time in the world to get ready and still ended up on his heels to start the fight. Very weird situation.

Because the Pens were so relevant before Crosby saved the franchise. Or were you not on the bandwagon long enough to remember that?

He was very nonchalant, that's for sure
