Like I said, the majority. You can't sell off everything, then you're left without a team. Tallinder's not worth anything. Ott's value is going to be pretty low. Moulson and Miller are the only two real assets they have left, and Moulson being spun was more than likely the plan all along when they got him, so it's really only Miller.
Ott can get a 1st rounder. In fact Ott probably has much more value than Miller.

I totalled one of those!

Ewww. My dad had a car like that. That was probably the absolute low point for Detroit. Everything they made was a POS. So, in that sense, it's a pretty good analogy.

EDIT: just noticed the Saab 900 right next to it. I had a car exactly like that. That car, on the other hand, was awesome all around and built like a tank.

Maybe. If his production continues the way it currently is for the rest of the season, I don't know how many teams are going to be interested for a first.

Direct shot at Darcy's failings:

@WGR550
Ted Black: "We need to transition from sellers to builders"

Eh, I don't interpret that as a dig at Regier. Darcy did (at least most of) the selling, now they're bringing in a new guy to do the actual building.

The way I read it, is that Ted was pretty much saying we should be looking at who our Core will entail of the guys we have right now, and start the rebuild. I think he was implying we need to start looking at who we are moving forward with and start building the process.

Of course this won't happen until we have a new GM and he can start implementing his vision of a team. Of course there may be guys that may not fit in the way the GM wants his team to play.

There will be guys gone which some people on these boards may not like being gone. Just be prepared.

Guys with "intangibles" tend to be in demand at the deadline, production or not. Goose had 17 pts in 56 games and brought back a 1st (with our 4th going the other way, too). Ott's a competitive, physical player who can win you a key faceoff, and will be a pain in the ass to play against over the course of a 7-game series.

I'm not sure he'll get a 1st, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he did. (Though I do think we'd have to add a little something, be it another pick or a lesser player.)

I don't have any doubt teams would want him for a run, I just don't know if he'd bring back a first at this point, especially by himself. We also don't have Darth Regier to make some kind of lopsided trade now.

Darth absolutely could have got a 1st for Ott.

Now, I don't know what the Sabres could get. Darth could trade like a champ.

Indeed, much more important than drafting very high is to draft smart, trade smart, and manage assets smart. Of course, it's 'easier' to build a strong team when drafting high, but it is very possible to mess it up if the organization is not professional enough in handling the players. I am thrilled to see if the Sabres will succeed in building a structure that maximizes our assets.

Well, what you have to figure, though, is that you took a 22 year span and considered the 13th and 14th picks. So you took 44 picks, essentially, and found 5 top six forwards, a good grinder, 6 top 4 D, one all-star winger and a great goalie. So about 1/3 of those guys ended up being pretty good. The closest among them to a guy I would build my team around might be Dustin Brown.

Picking 13th-14th consistently will get you some talent once every three years. But it won't put you on a track ahead of the rest of the league. Which is where we're trying to end up. If the best player in your organization over the last 22 years was Dustin Brown, you wouldn't be in great shape.

Now compare 13th or 14th overall with 1st or 2nd overall.

Yeah - it's a striking difference. When I saw the list of 13s and 14s, my initial reaction was that there are some great players on that list. But you're right, the difference is staggering. To put it in perspective, here's the list of the first and second picks over the same time period:

1990 - Owen Nolan, Petr Nedved
1991 - Eric Lindros, Pat Falloon
1992 - Roman Hamrlik, Alexei Yashin
1993 - Alexandre Daigle, Chris Pronger
1994 - Jovanoski, Tverdosky
1995 - Bryan Berard, Wade Redden
1996 - Chris Phillips, Andrei Zyuzin
1997 - Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau
1998 - Lecavalier, Legwand
1999 - Patrik Stefan, Daniel Sedin
2000 - DiPietro, Dany Heatley
2001 - Kovalchuk, Spezza
2002 - Nash, Lehtonen
2003 - M.A. Fleury, Eric Staal
2004 - Ovechkin, Malkin
2005 - Crosby, Ryan
2006 - Erik Johnson, Jordan Staal
2007 - Patrick Kane, JVR
2008 - Stamkos, Doughty
2009 - Tavares, Hedman
2010 - Hall, Seguin
2011 - Nuge, Landeskog

Until recently I had an 04, 95 AERO. Was t-boned by a speeding Prius. A franking PRIUS! lol. Totaled. I replaced it with an 08, 93. The difference between the two was staggering. Lets just say I wouldnt of survived if I were driving the plastic Mcdonalds toy that I am now.

Solid steel tank, I still miss ya. I remember having to ask passerbys for hand opening the trunk. It was like lifting a few cinder blocks off the ground. Haa. I open this newer one with my pinky. Smh

I also had a '96 9000 Aero and an '03 9-5 Aero. Fun cars. Guess what I drive now - a Prius! (no, I didn't hit you).

I think it was incredibly stupid to fire Regier before the trade deadline. More than likely Moulson will be traded, and Regier would have maximized his value. Should have canned the coach, and gave Regier until the end of the season.

On the other hand, the new GM can use the trade deadline this season to ensure he gets back what he wants, especially if prospects are involved.
