hansen should get a 2nd and 3rd+prospect. not a 2nd and a prospect. hes that valuable. given he has 1 extra year left on his current deal. should be enticing for playoff teams.

He's getting more valuable with each post. Hopefully the GMs buy into the groupthink in Vanny, eh?

I'd make sure if I owned a team to tell my GM. Any decent prospect 1st or second round pick packaged for a career role player in Hansen, pack your bags because you're fired.

Uh oh! GM's beware, another potential meddling owner looking to handcuff a franchise

Sure do seem like a lot of teams are asking for 1st rounders+ for their 3rd line players.

Hopefully Chia is smart enough not to bite.

price will drop when deadline hits and these guys are looking at assets walking away for nothing gained.

Save for the fact that the majority of us only want Burrows back at a mass salary discount and the other UFA guy we have we don't want back (even if management is stupid enough to want him back)
On the other hand, Hansen isn't a UFA so he shouldn't be lost to anything. If Benning were to submit a protection list with Granlund Sutter and Baertschi all listed over him, he should be fired.

Not quite, Many players don't get moved because other GM's low ball trying to take advantage. That's what happened with Hammer. It came out that in the dying minutes of the TDL, Dallas offered a 3rd for him and JB said no. Chi did not want to go after Hammer after what Ladd cost them.

Vrbata as having a bad season and gave 8 bottom feeder teams as his list. Teams he knew would not trade for him because he did not want to be away when his wife gave birth.

That was the Canucks TDL last year.

So is it realistically more likely or unlikely Hansen would be protected?

The cap friendly expansion tool does not auto-protect him, although there are a few weird choices that tool makes.

Unfortunately you can't expect the realistic with our management group. If he doesn't get traded Hansen absolutely should be protected in the expansion draft... but assuming he's still calling the shots it's like Benning will protect his guys, and protect Markus Granlund instead.
