Would have preferred to keep Rasmussen up. He was outplaying more than 50% of the current forwards on the team.
True, he was one of the better ones.

But maybe they think some games down would help his game.

People always think Grand Rapids is good for a player.
This kid took a couple games to get up to speed after playing in the shitty Austrian league.
Now he's going back to another slower league.

Drafted 2017
2017-18 - WHL (47 games)
2018-19 - NHL (62 games) [ AHL (3 games injury protocol i think))
2019-20- AHL (35 games)
2020-21 - Austria (18 games) | NHL 8 games | AHL (TBA)

Rasmussen can no doubt gain something by playing a much larger role in GR than 12 minutes in Detroit. He's clearly still developing his pro game. So in that sense, I'm not mad about him possibly getting a stint in GR.

On the other hand, he's not out of place in Detroit. He's not making a huge difference (who the F is?), but he's holding his own. Further, he's better than several players on this roster getting about the same, or more, minutes. Hell, put him out there with Brome (or maybe Hirose) and Smith. One guy can support puck possession on his line, and the other can work the boards and put hands into mugs like Vatrano's.
