If Boston does indeed add another sweater to its rotation in 2021, they’ll have plenty of intriguing options to choose from — and more than one design they should steer clear from. Here’s one hockey writer’s ranking of the top sweaters ever donned by the Black and Gold —starting with a couple of eyesores at the bottom (you know what’s coming…):

The Bourque-Neely era are my favorites. The White version is my favorite Bruins sweater of all-time.

I could live with the current black uniforms (with the gold shoulder yoke) but I think they should switch back to the Neely/Bourque era whites. The current whites are sort of a take off the old Fleetcenter whites with the black shoulder yoke and a striping pattern that makes the gold almost indistinguishable on TV sometimes. On the Neely ones the gold just pops way more. I like the look of the shoulder yoke on one jersey but not on the other.

As for their 4th jersey which is potentially coming, I'd do a combo of 9-Building a contender and 5-2010 winter classic. Heck the 2010 winter classic with a the current modern logo would be enough for me.

Bourque/Neely

Idiot 5 year old me used to be disappointed at the start of each season that they hadn't made changes to modernize this set like other teams were doing. Then it happened w/ the move to the Fleet and WOOF.

They're gorgeous.

Espo/Orr is a close 2nd.

Black uniform should ALWAYS have gold B and gold socks.

Curious to see what they come up w/ for the league wide "retro reversals".

Gold version of the Bourque/Neelys might be SHARP.

I think he wore #21 for a short time when he was traded back to the Bruins in 2001-2002 from the Kings

Sean O'Donnell started the season as #27. After the trade Muzz wore 21 until he could convince them to swap numbers.

Bourque/Neely jerseys are the GOAT and nothing even comes close to them. They are up there in the pantheon of the greatest hockey jerseys with the white Blackhawks, red Red Wings and red Habs jerseys

2010 Winter Classics are my #2. Perfect example of how to do a throwback tribute

I grew up on the Bourque/Neely ones and they will always be my favorite.

The current set is very good but imperfect - Miles better than the FleetCenter jerseys, but I'm not a huge fan of our road whites with the black yoke. I feel like they'd be better with gold shoulder yokes.

I'd be content if our regular set was our current home blacks with the 1980s/90s whites.

My controversial opinion is that the Pooh Bears aren't as bad or embarrassing as everyone makes them out to be. The issue is that the logo is garbage. But the color pops and even if the trim is very 90s, it's still pretty good. If that style had the regular Bruins logo or even the men in black alternate logo instead of that dopey brown bear head, they'd absolutely be salvageable.

Agree about the Pooh Bear. It isn't the colors so much as that God Awful bear head. The colors look good on the 2010 Winter Classics and the 55-67 sweaters. That bear head, though . . .
