Is it just me or is there more hope for this most recent draft than the previous few years? I feel like this is the first one since SFY where we took a couple of swings for the fences, so, even if we had fewer picks, I'm pretty optimistic we're gonna get at least one good NHLer.

Howard and Edmonds were definitely "Homerun swing" draft picks. this year we broke away from the usual mold of taking all around guys that fit "Lightning Hockey". I think there could be a couple of guys that potentially reach that status now instead of at the draft ie. Goncalves, Huuhtanen, Duke. Thompson, Schmidt, Shalagin (if he can figure it out), Finley, and Cajkovic (if he can keep his head straight).

Since 2019 not one player left in the organization that was picked in the to 50. There could be a gem somewhere of course but not big impact guys none of them look to have that upside.

It has been previously noted that the future was given away to build the team that has produced two Championships and a runner-up in the last three years. The pipeline is not what it once was, but the organization and fans seem happy and content with what they are seeing on the ice now at the NHL level, so that is what matters to many here on this board. Syracuse and Orlando fans are seeing the future, and have been for a few seasons.

It's a bit disingenuous to say not one player left that was picked in the top 50 since 2019 when there have only been two such picks and one of those this offseason. Foote trade was worth it. Trading the other high picks also worked out. Not having those high picks/prospects was one of the costs of winning. Well worth it.

That said, the futures given up in the Hagel trade aren't going to make the situation any better moving forward. Hitting on prospects outside the top 50 will continue to be integral to the teams continued success.

Finley and Cajovik come to mind but I do think I agree, definitely a lot more hope that this group turns out
