Just close the thread. Jets can't add $9M in caphit and still sign our RFAs. Getting Panarin is a blessing and a curse.

Good luck getting Trouba signed to a long term deal.

Lol, we'll just dump Namestnikov on someone for a 3rd, similar to the Vesey deal. Once the UFA wheels get spinning again, and teams miss out on a player they wanted to fill a top 9 role, Names on a 1 year 4M deal for a middling draft pick will seem like a decent deal for some teams. Depending on his role, if he produces decently and the team is out of it comes the deadline, could be shipped for more value than the 3rd rounder they'd give up to get the player.

After that, we'll be able to afford everyone, especially after sending down Beleskey and Brendan Smith to the AHL.

A Kreider deal will involve quite a bit of value coming back to the NYR.
In a capstrapped year, which team is going to pay to pick up Namestikov and his 30 points for 4m? Seems like very wishful thinking

Don't need luck. He wants to be here and we want him here. Gorton was quoted saying he's spoken to Overhardt and he knows what range they're looking at and he's comfortable with that.

There were offers for him last deadline. There are a number of teams that have cap space and a need as well.

I realize this trade doesn't interest you, but you have made it abundantly clear you shouldn't be trying to educate Ranger fans on the value of their players or the options they have.

In a world were Trouba is barely moved for a first+ you actually think you'll get a similar package for Kreider?

Those were Trouba’s RFA rights. People on here kept saying he had a year left, when he didn’t. Just proves that almost no one understood his situation.

Kreider actually has a year left on his deal, doesn’t have to be signed by 12/1 of this season or he can’t play, it’s an apples to oranges situation.

Values are a moot subject, needs aren’t addressed, Trade is impossible due to cap. Think of these things in the OP whenever creating a trade thread or your just wasting peoples time. This thread is on life support from the opening post.

We're talking about a player with 1 year left at 4 million and can play multiple roles on a team (wing and center, can PK). This isn't a contract like Lucic with multiple years of commitment.

Some teams will miss on FA and not be able to get their guy. Also, there are teams with cap space, and they could use a middle of the lineup player to not expose kids that aren't ready. If Jimmy Vesey could get a 3rd, Names can get the same, from another team that has a hard time recruiting free agents.

Staal is a veteran defenseman!

Haha so is Dion Phaneuf, doesn't mean it's worth it to sign him.

I feel like this is as good a thread as any to sum up the Jets current situation since there's a fair bit of offer sheet talk, etc

1) These posts about "The Jets need cap space to sign their guys, so here's an offer for Laine/Connor" completely miss the point that the Jets cap space is currently earmarked for those two players. Moving them doesn't solve any cap problems because the only reason to move cap is to sign those two - if the Jets trade one, there was no need to create cap space.

2) Because the cap is primarily earmarked for those players, adding extra cap right now is really not that ideal for the Jets, especially if it goes beyond this season. It would need to be an equal, or almost equal, cap hit going back. The trade in this thread, for example, completely ignores this.

3) Trades involving Roslovic are not cap related anyway. He's sitting on the 4th line right now and wants more playing time.

4) The defence isnt great and a Top 4 D would be awesome, but there needs to be some good term there or the price the Jets should be expected to pay should be adjusted to account for that. There was a post yesterday about Hamonic for Connor - Hamonic has one year left. Trading top end pieces for potentially one year of a d-man before he "explores the market" is very risky for the Jets.

Not a big Names fan either but it is only for one year. There has to be teams out there that wouldn't be that capstrapped that they wouldn't take Names for a year. I know Simmons was a decent player but NJ just gave him 5 million BUT for 1 year. I wouldn't expect a nice return for Names but someone could use him.

This is pretty brutal for the Jets. Why are they giving up two good young players (who were recent first round picks) for a cap dump and for a winger who would play on the third line in Winnipeg and who doesn’t even have term past this year? At least look at both teams’ perspectives before making a proposal.

To keep up with the tradition of the Rangers mugging the Jets, it needs to be Ville Heinola for Staal.
Trouba didn’t leave Chevy with many choices.

The Hayes trade was pretty much fair for a top-6 deadline rental.

I don’t think the trades were that bad with all things considered.

The cap is screwing the Rangers like how the Jets got screwed. They have to move one of Trouba, Kreider or Buchnevich. When you HAVE to move a player, you get terrible value back. Full stop

Uh, no. No we don't. But thanks for playing!

I am pretty sure that when Chevy woke up after the Trouba trade and found a quarter in his hand he took Gorton off speed dial.....

All three of them are still on the Rangers.

But I do agree that when the Jets HAD to move Trouba, they got terrible value.
