Nice move. Getting a #6 defenseman with a little upside for an AHLer and a late pick. Could see another move happening here with a D, that's 5LD and 2RD.

Why we want to become less mobile when one of our biggest issues was immobility, is mindnumbing.

Can't move the puck out of our own end, or through the neutral zone.

Earth to Sather...need more mobility, not less.

The Rangers have zero mobility issues on the backend. Every single one of the 6 is a mobile defenseman. Unless you're talking about the need for offensive defensemen, which is a totally different thing.

This is a good trade. Falk is an NHL defenseman. Sure, he's more of a depth guy, but you need guys like him in the organization. One of the Rangers biggest issues has been defensive depth. Beyond Eminger last season, we had nobody worthy of NHL minutes (LOL@ Hamrlik and Gilroy). Falk is. Simple as that.

I'm confused. Wouldn't that put them in the exact same boat then? A contract was swapped for a contract and the sixth rounder isn't until 2014?

If they hadn't thrown in Ferriero they'd be at 51.

Had to throw him in to stay at 50. I read it as Russo just letting Wild fans know that Ferriero was not the key piece of the deal and they shouldn't get hung up on him.

Rangers are at 50 contracts. They want to trade a 6th rounder for Justin Falk. However, such a move would put them at 51 contracts, which is not allowed. Therefore, they include Benn Ferriero in the deal so that it stays at 50. Get it?

What the falk !?

Meh. Don't really know if this is a precursor to any other moves, but this guy is a depth player at best, that's why we paid so low a price.

If there are no other moves with players on D someone is going to have to shift to the right side. Also looks like McI will be starting the year in Hartford unless he has a killer camp.
